Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Not sure what's going on with my connection recently. I dont think I've seen the full 100meg speed, whereas the 50 was always able to max out the line.

I thought it might have been an UNS issue, I was seeing max download speeds of ~900KB/s, headers downloading less than 100KB/s

Getting these results:

Yesterday was worse, 6Mb/s

Are these high ping and slow speed issues anything to do with this new firmware (which I think has just been released?)

edit: oh, my superhub settings page tells me I'm now on R36, hardware version 2.00.

So yeah, could this R36 firmware be the problem?

Virgin are not without their problems, many examples in this thread. It's not just this week. :)

u feel infinity via bt or sky is better then ?

i never had even one day off bb with o2 for past 3 years, and only had several issues past 6 months but not too serious and fixed in few days... but no down time.

have u tryed rebooting the SH?

Changed mine over to a super hub the other day, had no problems at all with it.
The WiFi range does seem weaker than the previous dir-615 router tho.

wow just wow perhaps virgin just having a bad week ?!

Bad week isn't the word, lol! It's more like a bad service and it's like a sweeping pattern. Area by area is getting bad/good speeds. Also the equipment isn't too good either. They need to consider a serious change to their service both internally and externally as well as upgrading their equipment to more satisfactory results. They will see a vast improvement if they changed their equipment and customers would be happy too. Also they're 'supposed' to be issuing 500Mb/s - 1Gb/s soon. It's highly unlikely that the network will be able to handle that when it clearly cannot handle 100Mb/s. If they did and they went through with it - their network would be dropping out every second and speeds would shoot down to dial-up. :o I'm only a 10Mb/s subscriber, but I did have and I've tried 50Mb/s with the SuperHub and for 3 months I had several technicians sent out and still no results. That's when I decided to change back to the basic package for the time being until I see improvements in the broadband. Also I cannot get BT Infinity here, but I can/would like to get BT ADSL +2. I am quite close/not that far from the exchange, so I think I'll have a good chance there with that. Although I would have to pay an extensive amount to have a new phone to be installed into my home. My phone line is messed up and I used to have just a phone before I switched to VM in 2009. Seems a little bit to ask; that's why I am on wait for better results and feedback. :)

One of my broadband speed tests matched the ping on the servers, 170 ping, lol.

I've just complained on their help forum. If they don't sort it out fast I'll make sure they refund me a month's payment http://community.virginmedia.com/t5...t/Ridiculously-high-server-pings/td-p/1407046

You'll be lucky to get a new hub at most. A refund would take a genius to talk them into it. It's like talking to the wall when on their customer support. Tossed and throwed about the place. Here, there and everywhere. I just hope to see an improvement in their service both internally and externally. It would do their business good if they did. I've also complained billions of times, but they just don't seem to get the main point and think it is the customer's fault and not their's/the service itself. :/

What affects the voltage, is it at VM's end or mine? And is it anything to do with pings and speeds?
it's at your end.. you would need to get VM out to do it.

too high or too low voltage can affect the connection to become unstable / speed / latency/ping

i'm having my superhub turn up today and then upgraded to 100mb.

it's a self install so just need to phone VM once connected (and switched to modem mode) and to get it all activated. looking forward to the extra download speed.

I've had 50mb for the past 3 1/2 years and it has been rock solid on the old modem.

All,

I upgraded my 10mb line to 60mb yesterday (VM came round and installed a super hub).
I checked my line speed when they left and it was still around 10mb, this morning I turned the super hub off for an hour (it's in modem mode) and when I turned it back on it was still around 10mbs. How long does it usually take for the line speed to increase?

it's instant. the engineer should have confirmed you were receiving 60mbps before he left

Yeah, I was just told the same thing on the VM help forum so I'll get an engineer out. As it happens, my speeds and pings are back to normal, (well they were over an hour ago) so I hope it stays that way. But my power levels are still over 11.
