Not sure where to put this - whole screen has become "Page is unavailable"

Was browsing reddit, opened an imgur link (probably completely unrelated) - and then everything starts to close and I'm left with a fullscreen "Page is unavailable".

I ctrl alt delete, that gets instantly closed.

I restart, log in, and there it is again, whole screen is page is unavailable.

So I've logged off and I'm now using the guest account, which seems to be unaffected.

Virus? Malware? Restart in safemode and run a scan?

sounds like a broken version of the police lock malware.

Malwarebytes anti-malware & combofix seem to fix it.

I agree with BloodyL. One of those sites was probably serving malicious code.

load up guest account and use msconfig. You should see the entry for it and its location, now go find and delete it

. As above, also do a scan to see if it has left anything else behind.

Thank you all.

Started up in safemode with networking and installed malwarebytes, ran a scan and found two items. Removed & restarted and all seems fine.

Time to update the OS, browser, java, flash, adobe reader, etc.
