Just wondering what people's thoughts on Nvidia's newest card on their Kepler lineup. Does it seem good for the price? I'm planning on buying a new graphics card soon (A-level present :)) and was wondering how the 660Ti fares in terms of performance for the price compared to other cards. The 560Ti was in that sweet spot as we all know, and currently the 7850 is what most people recommend now. Does the 660Ti fill that space as the 560Ti did before?

From the couple of reviews it seems like it is almost going to be based on brand allegiance. Unless pricing falls (which all signs point to this happening) then may as well close your eyes, spin around and point to somewhere on the screen to see which you end up with.

Too expensive here in the UK by about £25. Wait for it to drop, because it will or just wait for the inevitable price drop from AMD making the 7950 an amazing card for the money.

I've found the whole Kepler series characterizes a less than usual jump in performance and a more than usual jump in price, when compared with previous generations. The only thing that makes is stand out is the admittedly impressive drop in power consumption and heat, which is ultimately a secondary concern.

With most games' demand for performance where it is, many higher end Fermi owners are probably just as well to hang in there. However, for anyone still on an older gen than Fermi, the 660Ti must be very compelling indeed.

I for one am out of the race this year due to wedding costs, otherwise I'd have succumbed to upgrade fever months ago!!! If there's anything left in my budget by the end of the year, I'll treat myself to an upgrade if there's been a refresh of some sort. It would have to be more powerful than a gtx680 or it just isn't worth the bother.

I've been thinking the same, it seems component manufacturers are putting more emphasis on power consumption and less on performance. It's probably why Haswell isn't predicted to give the kind of performance leap we saw moving from Nehalem to Sandybridge, but will instead focus on power consumption. Damn global warming! It's why cards like the GTX 480 are the last of their kind- cards that went all out for performance, regardless of the huge amounts of heat it produced and power in consumed.

With uni on the way, my Dad has said that a new graphics card isn't a priority.... but my upgrade itch won't scratch itself I guess!
In any case, I think I deserve a new toy after my A-levels :)

I am going to be doing myself a build over the next few months. I have obviously taken into account the performance / price part, but are the ATi drivers really problematic? Is this something nVidia just seem to get right?

There seems quite a few mutterings that people have problems with their ATi cards, or getting the best out of them anyway.

Well my 6850 hasn't given me any problems, I guess it's inevitable for some people to get driver issues whichever camp you go with.

It is a shame that I am looking pretty much exclusively at an Intel and probably nVidia build, used to be such an AMD fanboy in my younger days. I know the ATi cards are pretty good still, and come the time of making a purchase that may be the direction I go but only time will tell, let's see if these new cards make it a more affordable hobby.

Never had a problem with ATI drivers, I think most of the problems come from crossfire users. I was due to buy my new card this week but will wait until next week to see if AMD use their brain and announce a price drop on the 7950, otherwise I will just grab a 670.

I bought a 7970 a few weeks ago.

Originally had a 9800gt, then a 4870 then 2x 9600gso sli, then gtx 460 then gtx 480 then 480 sli.

Point is, I have had nvidia for a good few years with no driver issues. Now I'm on the 7970 and have no driver issues. Frankly it annoys me that people talk about ATI/AMD and driver issues.

It's toss. Go for the best bang for buck, which to be fair is the closest its ever been. I personally went for the windforce 7970 over the 670. For two reasons. It has 3gb of vram and it looks great. Performance wise it, the gtx 670 and the gtx 680 are a much of a muchness after overclocking

am liking AMD right now... dont like how Nvidia pricing up and this 660 is a tad pricey..

its good anyhow we need more cards and price fights
