Hi All I,m alittle bit puzzled about 3D T.V,s I have been looking & reading about the different types of 3D Active & Passive on LG , Samsung & Sony makes , and how one is not Full HD 3D and the other is , can anyone explain what this is about ? i,m confused lol thanks

its just about how the image is split, passive tvs/glasses are cheap to produce but come at a cost to the 3d performance as the resolution is halfed.

active glasses retain the full resolution. so Full hd 3d

thanks so which makes a re active and which are passive ? am i right in saying Sony and LG are active and Samsung is passive ?

LG's 2012 range are passive afaik.

You can tell the difference by the glasses, if they are powered it's active, and if they're not (like the ones at the cinema) - they're passive.

oh right so if there battery there Active and just the glasses are passive ..i got it now ha! So am i right in saying Samsung 3D is Active as i,ve seen rechargeable 3D glasses on the Auction site ?

All of LG's led range are Passive, their plasma or Acvtive.

Panasonic ET5b range are passive using lg screen, the rest of the range is active.

Samsung are all Active as are sony i think.

Active is called Full HD 3D, and passive is considered as Cinema 3D so max 720p iirc. Although apparently they have just been signed of as FullHD 3D.

thanks for the info ,very helpful ,so what would you say is the best quality out of the 2 ?

The best quality is going to be the one that doesn't give you headaches.

Best to try in the shop and see how they feel as I have known people who just couldn't get through a full 3d film.

Still think 3d is hugely over rated, but given its popularity I may be in the minority.

Passive seem to suit most due to the glasses not having a flicker, i have some Active DLP Link glasses which i use and they are fine for me.

The other obvious advantage with passive 3D is that you dont really need pay for the glasses just take them from the cinema when you go watch a 3D movie.

I was reading a review of active & Passive 3D and this is something they mentioned :

If you're still unsure, mull over these three simple rules:

Buy a Passive 3D TV if…
You mainly intend on watching 3D animation movies with your kids.
You want to host 3D sports parties and invite your mates.
If you intend to buy a relatively small 3D TV (42 inches or less).

Buy an Active Shutter 3D TV if…
You're a film fan who wants to see movies in the highest possible resolution.
If you plan on kicking back and watching sports on your own.
If you plan on buying a large screen 3D TV (46 inches or bigger).

pretty much this, Active gives less cross talk than passive, and better viewing angles, but in a well lit room they do flicker, i find both suit me tbh, but would buy active my self.
