Have you ever upgraded your computer just to cheer yourself up?

In acme's chair.
Whenever i fall into depression, for whatever reason (life sucks sometimes as we all know) i always have an urge to blow some money on an upgrade.

Does anybody else do this or think about this?

Yep have done that a few times over the years.

Still get a thrill from having parts delivered for a new build and putting it all together.

So yeah does help to do something you enjoy when feeling down.

Used to, on many occasions.

I used to be terrible for buying small performance upgrades as well, in my 20's my PC was permanently in bits for one reason or another.

Now I just upgrade when something struggles.

I usually blow it on trips to the pub.

Or expensive holidays.

Cheers me up much more than a new PC.

I bought a 24 inch Dell 2405 monitor in January 2006 because I was feeling a bit down. Other than that.. Only when computer needed it. Was thinking of splashing out on a new build as a present to myself after I get married in the next couple of months, then realised that my machine is still in good working nick thanks to SSDs.

Might seem like a good idea at the time to cheer you up but if it's an expensive upgrade and needed the money for something else a few weeks later or realised you didn't really need to upgrade it can make you feel worse.

Not to cheer myself up. But once when i was very drunk, i bought a q9550 cpu when i already had a q6600 at 3.8ghz.

Everyone does occasional retail therapy...

As for PC wise, I upgrade bits and pieces when they need upgrading. I have to have a valid reason to upgrade, but if I do, I'll tend to go for the upper end of things rather than getting something that's probably perfectly fine and I could get by with...

I like quality :)

When I'm at a low ebb my desire to buy stuff definitely increases. When everything is going well the need for possessions virtually disappears. Perhaps buying things compensates for something that's missing in life.
