Unhappy Ebay buyer

Ebay decided to issue the refund themselves (So both me and the buyer didn't lose out) when I sold a faulty GPU. I stated it was faulty in the description etc but it turned out the person who owned it before me had already tried fixing it and made a pretty big mess of it (I'd bought it to try and fix and ended up never trying so I never really examined the card all that much) so the buyer was understandably quite ****ed off by this as II hadn't included that in the description.

What I'm saying is, don't think you've already lost if they're trying to screw you over, eBay can be nice sometimes :p.

Could simply be user error. I know with my DDR2 RAM that by default my motherboard is I think 1.8v and my ram required 2.1v to run (with a warranty that covers overclocks to 2.2v), it was a pain to get even into BIOS. If I left it at 1.8v the motherboards error LCD gave a RAM error that is no different from if the RAM was dead or malfunctioning.

Just reply with

"so you installed it yourself but when faced with an error you had to call in external help? Pull the other one."

This story is FULL of holes.

Was the system working AT ALL prior to installing the memory? If not, why did he assume memory would fix it.

What memory was he using prior, was it faulty? Was that the reason for purchase? Was it for an upgrade? If the old memory was not faulty, did he test it with that back in?

"Soon after" it crashed? So it posted fine, he used the PC fine THEN it crashed...now all of a sudden the system will not post _AT ALL_?

Seriously dodgy.

Edit - Just saw your update:

"My Motherboard is an ASUS M2N68-VM which is capapable of handling 8 Gig of Ram in 4 slots of 2 Gig. I already have 4 Gig in 2 slots."

So, chances are his motherboard is faulty and all the supposed 'expert' did was remove his sticks then run memtest (At best) They probably did not even run memtest and just diagnosed the fault as your memory because it did not work with those 2 sticks in those 2 slots but did with his 2 sticks in the other 2 slots.

I was contemplating splitting my PC and listing on ebay but it seems there is far to many issues like this going on!

I have just sold a spare CPU which sold on a BIN in about 10 minutes! Seems the buyer is addicted to CPUs: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&ftab=AllFeedback&userid=mm_wilson
What I don't understand is how his feedback is 1078 but in the last 12 months he has had 1767 positive feedback! May just be my lack of ebay knowledge though?

I noticed in one of the feedback comments he is a scammer due to chargeback if you don't send recorded.

What if you don`t have the money on your Paypal account anymore, can Paypal do a charge back directly from your bank account? If so, then can you request a chargeback from your bank?

Got to be careful when flogging your computer components, I never sell owt on ebay for the very reasons given here, best to advertise in the local rag or somat so refunds can't be forced for your perfectly good working bits being ****** up by idiots.

I sold a complete PC which was praticaly brand new, built by myself & mate and fully tested, absolutely no faults with it at all. The buyer asked for a 12 month guarantee from me and I pointed out that most components were practically brand new and reciepts were given to the buyer. This didn't appear good enough for them and they wanted in writing a guarantee. so I just wrote that the computer had been paid for in full with cash and handed them that.

Then the phone calls started. First off, the sound wasn't working, turned out they put the plug in the wrong hole on soundcard. Then they didn't like the operating system which was vista when first released and demanded a copy of XP and that I go round to install it.
I told them if they wanted XP they would have to go and purchase it for themselves and hung up.
Further calls, why do some games not work properly? told them that vista was a new OS and that some older games may not be 100% compatible and to check for windows updates reguallary.
Guy comes back knocking on door asking for XP, told him computer shop sells it and that the computer he bought off me came with vista as advertised. He then demands a full refund so I demand he **** off and slammed the door in his face. That was the last I heard.

Best to use the MM here to flog your bits if you have access to it.

I have just had a similar experience. Sold a tablet, he gave me good feedback and then a week later started kicking off that it has a dead pixel and bad scratches. It was mint with no dead pixels. Anyway after a lot of heated exchanges I gave him a 10% refund of £30 and it shut him up.

Feel like being vindictive and leaving bad feedback after the PayPal cut off date!

Some real ***** out there man, leave that feedback m8 so as to let others know what the prat is like. ;)

Ebay and paypal will back the buyer no matter what, they are useless and almost criminal how they work.

I sold a core2 cpu on there which I tested working before sending. I also UV marked the edges and took detailed photos showing the chip from every angle.

Once the seller received the chip I had an email stating it does not work and he want's a refund. I tried to offer advice but two days later I received a chip back in the post.

When I get the chip back it's clearly a different one and not even the same version I sent out. So I send all my evidence to ebay inc notes about the UV marking and detailed shots etc.

Ebay respond with as the buyer has returned the item a refund must be processed. I argue this just to keep receiving threats from ebay and then a demand from paypal who without my permission use part of my credit to refund this idiot. I then get a case closed email and have had no response from either ebay or paypal since.

Needless to say I will never use ebay again as it is full of scammers and ebay and paypal will happily just steel your money to keep a buyer happy.

Can we have a sticky at the top of GD with something along the lines of 'Do not use eBay'?

These sorts of threads are starting to nearly be a daily occurrence.

I think I'm just going to give my parts away if they seem to act like idiots and claiming refunds left right and centre. What happens if you sell an item clearly as SOLD AS SEEN or NO RETURNS? How about listing an item, fully working, as faulty? Would this void the refund process for the sake of 10-20% cut in revenue? Assume that 1020% is the headache if returning/refunding.

I had a similar issue with ebay about 2 years ago, selling a HP G7000 Laptop which was clearly marked as faulty or defective as a friend of friend asked me to repair it (couldn't so sold him a "refurbished" Dell desktop) was going to use it for parts in-case I ever came across this model of laptop again.

Selling reasons: I have not come across this notebook again and so need to sell to recoup earning, as listed Battery,HDD and Optical Drive are faulty and there are signs of impact damaged (images of impact damage)

This is not suitable for people trying to fix would be better as parts to repair this notebook model"

Anyway about a 2 weeks later the buyer had filed a charge back product not as listed, which to my horror I replied WTF??, it was listed as faulty never heard anything from the buyer apart from it wouldn't load his copy of windows XP, but paypal still took the money out of my account even tho I showed them the advert and the images.

I then asked him if he was trying to boot it from an USB stick or from External optical disk after Paypal took the money, to my shock he was trying the internal one which was marked as faulty, took the evidence to ebay and paypal but it was to late as far as they were concerned the matter was closed.

Never sold anything by it again after that.

It takes 10 days of seller Non comunication for paypal to simply pull monry.
I say its ur fault

best case..guy is ok, made a mistake returns the ram..nothing lost
Likely.. Guy sends u back faulty ram..ebay refunds him from your sale..rbay always side with buyer

Pc parts are so risky..heres my solution to a good sale

Price itwm for sale high, over value it. Put best offer on, that way you can choose who gets it by looking at past feedback.
If someone buys it a full value and its obviously a scam..had this happen with a 6950 i listed for 279 which someone bought with 0 feedback.. Say you sent it but dont, say it got lost in the post, ebay redund your fees and you still have the item. Nothing lost

Works for me
