There is a possibility my 2001 Pug 306 might be dead :( Wasn't expected so my budget is quite low!

I'm basicly looking for something that's cheap to insure (I'm 44 with full no claims), Cheap tax and most importantly reliable. I have £2000 to spend and would prefer to buy from a garage.

Both me and the wife are not really car people and have no interest beyond getting from A to B. We will need some boot space (enough for 2 medium cases) and the option to put a roof rack on for cycles etc.

What should we be looking for?

I'd risk saying this is screaming Mondeo/Focus?

Anything in those ranges will be very cheap to insure for you (most things will tbh)
They definitely tick the reliable box (subject to avoiding the TDCi models at the price you are looking at, which is good news as you can spend the money you save buying a petrol getting a newer, better equiped model)

Thanks guys

Will a Mondeo/Focus cost more to run and insure than my current 306 1.4L Meridian?

We pay just under £300 fully comp with my wife as the named driver, Tax is about £180 a year.

It saddens me that I'm not the first in the thread to do this, but regardless, I will wave the Mondeo banner with pride...

Like the look of both of these but should I really be spending £2k on a 10 year old car?

My current car is a 2001 model with a genuine 60k on the clock and before the electrical problems I wouldn't have valued it more than £700 or are these so much better?

With your needs and budget age is nearly irrelevant, condition is nr 1.

Plenty of choice for <£2k e.g. this. Can spend less if you go for lesser trim or consider higher mileages.
