660ti or a 7950 for 1920*1200 gaming?

I dont know why they did it either, but as an overclocker I love it :D
It gives me a good feeling running my card over 50% faster than reference speeds.

There is a school of thought that AMD left the cards with a lot of overclocking headroom so they could upgrade the bioses as an easy counter to nvidias releases, but we will never know.

50% ?!?!?!? That's a pretty good overclock even for a 7950. in light of that i'm not going to tell what % overclock mine passed stress testing but i thought it was pretty decent, until now :o

Thanks for that, lol.

925 to 1200mhz is decent with any amount.
the pure value with OC is astounding really.

1270Mhz / 1375Mhz at full throttle loops Unique Heaven at full tessellation and holds all my games. and still under 70c at that.

That's all she has, its 27% on the core, but i don't run it that high. i have seen some people running 7870 @ way over 1300Mhz on the core. MSI HAWX usually.

But i think its insane running them 'that' high for everyday use, it can't be good for them.

It'll be fine if the voltages are OK.

The issues come from heat and noise. If neither is a problem then no reason not to run the higher clocks unless it's personal preference not to.

Yes 800Mhz to 1200MHz is pretty easy unless you have a reference cooler, I have heaven benched at 1275Mhz a while ago. All the 7xxx series are capable of 1200MHz with decent cooling and a voltage bump (apart from the bad clockers of course), but its the low base clocks that gibe the 7850 and the 7950 their value to overclockers.

There is no volts mod on my card with those overclocks, no MSI AB XML benchers volts unlock and all that, just the normal voltage slider which apparently is perfectly safe, Sapphire actually bundle ready software with voltage unlock done, TRIXX is what i actually use for the Gigabyte to, for some reason it seems to deal much better than MSI AB with the vDroop. And as i say i have never seen the temps hit 70c, its rated for over 80, so its ok.

Still i set the clock at a nice round number that will give me what i want from my games, so that's where its at. no need to push it more for excesses.

Which is probably why you don't even bother, you don't need to.

I think you were getting confused because I was talking about stock before. I just benched at stock see how much my overclock was increasing performance.

Probably, i have been up all night working on the computer, i'm pumped full of coffee, i'm about ready to get a few hours sleep, not that i will with caffeine replacing what was coursing through my veins.

OP here, well i went and pulled the trigger on a used 7950. HIS H795F3G2M. Got it for $225, (I'm an expat in the USA) Anyway, for those of you without a calculator, that is around 140 quid. So not bad. I'll be able to sell my 5770's for around $150, or 95quid... So for 45quid, its a decent upgrade.

JUST as long as it doesn't arrive in pieces !!! lol..
