True Blood - Season 5

Good episode that, although some scenes are making no sense now i.e. Lilth appearing to each of them telling them they're chosen and only one can lead  and then the introduction of that ancient fairy was stupid as well and plus she seemed rather thick :p :o

Anyway, preview for the last episode:

Can't believe only 1 episode left and still no idea how it is going to end :D Although think that it is going to be rushed and everything will be all over the place.

Bill really has turned into a xxxx this season.

Wonder how Russell will be stopped:

as after draining that ancient fairy he seems to have become pretty much unstoppable now going by the preview for next week. Maybe this Warlow will show up and be more powerful/older than Russell and protect what is technically his?

What's not to understand? Lilith clearly wants / needs one of them to drink her blood. She obviously doesn't much care which one - or wants to "choose" whichever one has the faith in her to take that leap.

Yes... she did seem a bit "out there". And a little unneccesary.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking as well. Warlow is older and more powerful (though probably not as crazy), and will stop Russell.

As for what Russell will do next - I stand by my previous guess that he will abduct a few fairies in an attempt to breed / study them. Guess we'll find out soon enough! :D

On the plus side - the main story thread is finally starting to dominate, with the remaining threads all converging (apart from Alcede's "Daddy issues" side story). We only had about five mins of side-guff (few mind of Sheriff Andy, and a bit of Terry and Arlene post-murder).

Hmm, true!

I don't think he will be able to keep even one fairy alive long enough to study their blood :D

Also the crazy old fairy knew Russell and seemed really ****ed with him, would love to have known what that was about as it seemed like they went way back (judging by her reaction when she heard his name) but we all know that he didn't even know that fairies still existed until Sookie in Season 3

I could watch Andy for an entire episode, his face impressions, voice, everything about him is awesome :D

I thought Alcide would have played a bigger role in this, but it doesn't seem like he will, also found it quite surprising that he was able to take on a vamp   Even a baby vamp would be much stronger and faster than a wolf.

Yeah, baby vamp vs wolf - I'd have thought the baby vamp had it hands down. But still - I guess they didn't tussle for long.

BTW I agree with you that it seems crazy to wrap all this up in one episode! Surely it has to roll over into the next series somehow? :D

And yes - while I consider his current story to be mostly a sideshow / distraction, Sheriff Andy is always great on screen :) Chris Bauer is such a great actor... Have you seen The Wire? He's a major character in series 2, playing a dock-workers union leader, and his part couldn't be more different to that on true blood. He gave such an amazing performance there as well - he's true quality.

In some ways I hope it does and in other ways I hope it doesn't :D

I honestly can't see how they will wrap everything up i.e. killing of the characters like Rosalyn, Salome, possibly Steve and Russell and then you have the whole Bill/Lilth thing without making it feel rushed. It really needs to be a 2 hour episode :D :p

Just thinking back to the elder fairy VS Russell there and my god it was such a stupid scene when you think about it, she is thousands of years old and was made out to be extremely powerful and with tons of data/knowledge, she knows of Russell and therefore I presume she knows how powerful/old he is, yet she comes to that stupid decision and ends up:

getting drained by a vampire after all those years of surviving:o :p
Starting to think maybe she intended for that to happen, a sacrifice for a greater purpose or something like that and she did say just before she went out that the plan has changed.

Nope haven't seen that, but may have to start watching it just because of him now :p :D Have seen him in a few TV films and he did a pretty good job on them, completely different to the True Blood role as well.

BTW the inside of episode 11 is up on youtube, can't link here due to some Lilth nudity in the first few seconds so search for this on youtube: "True Blood Season 5: Inside the Episode #59 "

Clip of the last episode is on YouTube, can't link here as it contains naughty words :p It is a great clip though :D

Just search " True Blood Season 5- Season Finale Extended Sneak Peek" on YouTube.

Season 1 and 2 had me hooked. I lost interest half way through the 3rd, and the 4th sounds like it just went off the rails.

I can't see them wrapping this up next ep. Far too much going on.

I can see whoever drinks the blood being taken over by the 'spirit' of Llith, and its all just an elaborate ploy to gain a physical presence in the world again. Probably Salome after a tussle with Bill.

Russell, I expect to have a big throwdown with Warlow over who gets to keep the Faeires.

As for everything else, not a clue where it's going to go!

No idea where this is going to go, but I assume that fairy had a plan. Was kind of a stupid scene if she didn't.

Can't possibly see this being wrapped up in a single episode.

Funny watching the authority tear itself apart with them all thinking they are the chosen ones. Kind of hoping Lilith will actually appear for real.

Well that was... interesting!

Don't open unless you've watched s05e12!

Okay, first up - very disappointed with Russell Edgington's demise.. Yes I knew it was inevitable that he would die, but he deserved more than just a cop-out ending in the first minute of the episode. It would have been a lot more dramatic if that scene was shown at the end of episode 11, but I guess they wanted to "build suspense" to entice people in for the final episode. Seems a little pointless to me, especially given that HBO is a subscription channel. RIP Russell...

Anyway, apart from that I thought that it was an interesting end to the series. Bill played Salome just like I thought he would, and we have an interesting premise for series 6. Bill bursting into blood and then re-emerging was a little weird, but it certainly symbolises a new beginning for the character. It'll be interesting to see where they take him next season.

Anyway, it seems like the whole "Warlow" thing was a setup for the next series, which is fair enough. I'm glad that they're rolling over the "vampires vs humans" story, and I hope that they follow it through properly. Without the Authority, it will be interesting to see how it all progresses. Will Bill try to fill the power vacuum?

The Alcide pack-master thing once again seemed like a distraction, but it didn't take up too much air time, so that's okay. The Sam / Luna / Emma storyline wrapped up about as well as could be expected, and stoked the fires of anti-vampire hatred - which could be interesting for next series.

Anyway, all in all, apart from the poorly-timed death of Russell Edgington, I thought it was a pretty decent end to the series. 9-months down the line I guess we'll see how it all progresses.

9 months? :(

Wow!!!! What an episode and great way to finish it off! :D Can't wait for season 6 now, I have a funny feeling that it could be the last season though :(

Soo many things I was not expecting to happen or turn out like the way they did :D

Likewise, was disappointed at how quick Russell died and how he went, although in some ways I am glad that it was Eric who killed him as they were the only ones to have a history and felt that he was the right one to kill him out of everyone, really wasn't expecting that death to happen as soon as that though, especially within the first minute

Yup seen that coming a mile away as soon as he told her about her being the chosen one and was even more obvious as soon as he let Salome take the vial of blood and trying to persuade her not to take it, it was the only way he could defeat Salome considering she is like 1600 years older.

When Bill blew up, I thought he had died for good (although when you think about it, he is basically dead), but then when I seen the puddle of blood I knew that he would come back covered with blood (as when Lilth first appeared, the puddle looked the exact same :p)

So many great comedy moments as well :D, Andy and the birth of his children with Arlene etc. watching and then when Tara freed Pam and they kissed, Jessica's face and "I KNEW IT!" :D

I really am liking Eric now. Probably my favourite character out of them all.

WTF is up with Jason now as well

At least Steve Newlin survived :D :p

BTW, did anyone else have to turn the volume down during the birth scene? :p

Ah well, that is it for another year :( Next up for me is the walking dead season 3.

EDIT 2:

Taken from IMDB:

True Blood Season Finale Post Mortem: Alan Ball Answers Burning Questions, Previews Season 6

TVLINE | So, is Bill God now?

I don’t want to say if he is or he isn’t. Who’s to say what Lilith really is?

He is still Bill but he is something different.

TVLINE | So there is some of the old Bill in there?

It is Bill, but it is a transformed Bill. He is not a completely new person. It’s not like his memories or his experiences have been left out and he’s just a baby.

TVLINE | Can he revert back to the old Bill?

Well, that’s the question: Is he going to be evil? What does he want? What is he going to do? Will he be able to revert back to Bill? That’s for future seasons. The implication, certainly, is that he is more ferocious.

TVLINE | As you warned me back at Comic-Con, there was a lot of death in the episode — some more ambiguous than others. Did Luna die?

You’ll have to watch [next season]. We didn’t see her die. TVLINE | And Russell? Is he really dead? He’s gone. We may see him in flashbacks, but he bit it.

TVLINE | Also back at Comic-Con, you declined to tell me which couple you were having the most fun writing for this season because it would be too much of a spoiler. Can you now confirm it was Russell and Steve?

Yes. I love both of those actors and I thought they were hilarious and kind of touching.

TVLINE | Will Steve remain a viable character next season?

I don’t know. I’ve spoken to Mark briefly. They’ve only pitched some very broad ideas. I hope he does because I think he’s such a great character. I don’t know if he would be a big part of the season, but he definitely seems like that would be a person to bring back.

TVLINE | You really outdid yourself with Rosalyn’s death scene. Congratulations.

I think that is probably the most jaw-dropping [death] that we’ve done. Every time I see it I laugh.

TVLINE | The Pam/Tara kiss – did you know at the start of the season that it was all leading up to this?

It was in our mind at the beginning of the season, yes. We wanted to really tease it out.

TVLINE | What was it about those two characters that made them relationship material in your mind?

They both were, if not full-on lesbians, than bisexual. They both were characters with real attitude. And they both hate each other — at least they did at the beginning of the season. And that, to me, felt like it could create a lot of tension that could turn romantic towards the end.

TVLINE | Where would you personally like to see that relationship go next season?

Well, here’s the thing with relationships on True Blood: Once they happen then you have to throw a monkey-wrench into them, because to have people be happy is not that exciting.

TVLINE | But it’s your understanding that Mark is committed to that story? All of the writers were into [them], so that is my understanding, yes.

TVLINE | Did you ever consider introducing or unmasking Warlow in the finale?

No. We didn’t want to really define Warlow until the next season.

TVLINE | So he’ll definitely figure into Season 6?

I think he’ll be kind of a big part of it.

TVLINE | Is he someone we’ve met before?

TVLINE | With Bill heading into Big Bad territory next season, does that make Eric now the hero of True Blood?

Remains to be seen. They’ve both been heroes in their own way. Eric was kind of like a mischievous cad, but I don’t think he was ever, like, a true villain the way that Russell was or the way that Maryann was. And he’s done a lot of really heroic things himself. So I never really looked at Eric as the bad guy and Bill as the good guy – at least not since the very early seasons. But it remains to be seen what will go down with both of them.

TVLINE | A non-finale burning question — why did you write Hoyt out?

I felt like we had told his entire story. There weren’t many places we could go with him that we hadn’t been, but I love that character and I love Jim [Parrack] so much I didn’t want to kill him. He’s always been such a good soul. I wanted to have the possibility for him to return as well. But he fell in love and he couldn’t let go.

TVLINE | Did you feel like you had to write him out so viewers could more easily accept Jessica and Jason without feeling guilty?

That was not the thought, no. I thought the way that he left and the way that he made her glamour the memories out of him was pretty devastating. Also, there are so many characters on the show to serve. It felt like Hoyt had run his course for now, so we thought let’s send him off to Alaska and then if we need to bring him back as well.

TVLINE | The finale was your swan song — how are you feeling?

It’s bittersweet. It’s been such a big part of my life for so long; of course it’s hard to step away. But running that show is such a huge job and I’ve been doing it for five years straight. I just don’t think I have another season left in me. I need to re-charge. And then I’m interested in doing something new — something with different characters and a different tone.

As a writer, it’s fun to create. And once you get into a long-running show with very established characters and a very established tone and format, after a while it’s a really great job but that’s what it is — a job. You’re just continuing to create the same show. I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want to work as hard. Actually, I’ve had to take a good hard look at workaholism and it’s effect on one’s mental health. [Laughs] And, also, there are things I want to do that are different. I want to try something completely different.

TVLINE | The show is in good hands with Mark?

Very good hands. And three other writers have been there since the very beginning… It’s like a having a kid go away to college.

EDIT:

Ohh, been reading IMDB forums and some interesting info on who Warlow might be!

Apparently he is also known as Remus, Godric's brother, which would fit in with that whole Nora/Jason scene as soon as they got out of the elevator.

EDIT:

New Jessica VLOG up, can't link due to swearies, just search "True Blood Season 5: Jessica's Vlog (Season Finale) " on youtube.

Also True Blood Season 5: Inside the Episode #60 (Season Finale) is up on youtube but again can't link to it due to swearies *sigh*
