Best heatsink for 3930k

They're all more efficient units than the H100. The SB-E Extreme will be better but remember it will be loud unless you run the fans at low RPM. Regardless, even at low RPM, it will be better or as good as the H100 (the H100 fans would have to be at full RPM to match the SB-E Extreme at low RPM).

I don't think this thread will ever end :p.

As we say over and over and over.

Top air coolers are as good as H100 and quieter.

Silver Arrow SB-E and Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme are same cooler with different fans. SB-E Extreme has 2x TY-143 700-2500rpm fans vs SB-E with 1x TY141 700-1300rpm & 1x TY-150 700-1200rpm fans.
SB-E Extreme @ 1300rpm cools same as SB-E at full speed at same noise level and same as H100. Crank the SB-E Extreme up to 2500rpm and it out performs H100 at 56dBA vs H100 at 55dBA..

I know we have covered this, but last time I got a new system in 2008 I regretted what I got, I just what to make sure that I don't make the same mistake again.

We know you are OCD... It's okay.

Seriously, I understand your concern. It's not easy to figure out the best way to go with all the choices out there.. and all the confusing information available.

It's not all the choices, it's the fact that I have to live with my choice and to be honest I am a bit OCD (in the true sense of the term).

Just get the biggest and baddest. Then tame it with a fan controller. You won't regret buying the most efficient cooler!

Just do it. If I was buying now I would buy what is regarded as the best performing heat sink, which is the Silver Arrow from what I've read. That fans are supposedly better too. You won't regret.

Do you have any pc shops near you? Maybe you can find one and go and look at the coolers.

It doesn't matter how carefully I pick my components there are always things I would do different if I did it again.

All we can do is our best and not beat ourselves up afterwards.

I'm a custom cabinet and furniture maker. Some of the pieces I've built dozens of times and still I find better ways and improvements to add.

How tall a cooler will fit in your Antec 900? If you have 165mm SB-E Extreme will fit.
How much room is there from top PCI slot to center of CPU? If you have 80mm SB-E Extreme will fit as it is 155mm wide.
How tall is you RAM? Will a 140mm fan fit between RAM and side cover?

Transport it on it's side and don't bang it around and you will be fine.

If you really worry remove cooler and GPU when transporting.

Fact is If you move it 30 times a year anything can happen. But don't worry too much. One good drop on concrete and you can start all over again. ;)

My HDT-S1283 fits with room to spare and it's only a bit shorter and I will be getting 40mm memory.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is 159mm tall.

40mm memory + 140mm fan = 180mm so you would need 20mm clearance above your Xigmatek.

Your Xigmatek is a good cooler.. only a couple degrees below D14. Do you really need a better cooler?

The D14 would be way better than that Xigmatek. With three 8mm heat pipes, it's technically less able than the Alpenfohn Triglav which you'll see in my benchmark results is way down from the top of the charts.

K2 great, but why not just get the best one and be done with it? I have to buy the best aircooler, when I got my D14 it was the best, it's rival was the True 120. If I got now I'd get the Silver Arrow and wouldn't even ask questions. It will fit in an Antec 900, I remember that case having decent depth.

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1231605&mpage=1 That's how it looks installed (the guy had to mod it).

You could just go with the K2 though and not have to fiddle about...

+ for the Silver Arrow SB-E (or Extreme).
I deliberately went for air cooling for my new system which is an OC 3930k @ 4.5
Idle temp is 39-42, and at load it peaks at 60. That's with a partially completed case fan set up so I'm hoping to bring it down further by a couple of degrees or so.
