How do you store your owners manuals?

Why would you scan them in, I'm struggling to think of something I own where I might need the manual and it's not available in PDF already.

I tend to keep manuals in the boxes, oh yeah and I keep boxes for nearly everything! Drives my GF mad

Straight in the bin. I either learn by myself or give up in 5 minutes frustrated that it doesn't work.

This is why I buy Apple products.

Apple. Better than you.

Depends,

For the car? In glove compartment
Flat pack furniture? Bin, after it's done of course
DSLR? In the box that it came in
iPad? What manual :p

You do have some random threads Kwerk....

I was thinking about maybe stepping up to scanning all my instruction manuals as PDF files and keep them on my computer instead, and sell the original on ebay or throw them away. Then I can create an inventory of all my possessions and have them index linked with the PDF manuals. I can also log the dates of oil changes, battery cycling, cleaning and other routine maintenance, and have reminders pop-up on my calender on my phone. For example "change transaxle fluid in lawn mower today" or "vacuum dust off refrigerator condenser".

before you spend a whole weekend scanning and creating pdfs check here first:

lots of manuals already online

Lol

In the bin, along with box and packaging.

What manual can't you just go to manufactures site and just downlaod. Not that you need a owners manual for 98% of goods.
Also not willing to have house cluttered in empty boxes, just to get a few £ extra if I decide to sale it on somepoint in the distant future, when it's probably worth next to nothing anyway. But that's just me.

I only ever keep manuals if I plan on selling the item in future as bizarrely putting 'boxed with manual' adds loads onto the price you can get, even though the person who buys it will probably not read the manual either.

well say for something that needs bolts tightened to a specific torque, it's nice to have a printed manual handy to refer to while you're working on it.

Or what if the company that made it goes bankrupt or something. I've had that happened before with Abit motherboards. They don't offer support any more.

I keep my OCuK forums owners manual on a heavily reinforced steel shelf as it's extremely thick and heavy with 2,520 pages.

Usually in a box file that I keep in the cupboard with my other paperwork. Depends on the manual though. Expensive kit, yes, cheap £3 iron, no.
