Any price drops for GTX 680's any time soon ?

Get a 670 instead.

In answer to your question who knows when there'll be a price drop. They must be happy with their margins at present.

Or supply may be choking them.

If you're going Nvidia then I'd recommend the 670 as others have. I'm sending mine back for a 7970 though as I wanted the 670 for BF3 only and the 7970s perform a lot better since 12.7 Beta drivers so no point for just one game if AMD can compete now (for me, I'm not trying to persuade you to buy differently :)). The Windforce is really quiet, in fact it's the quietest high end graphics card I've used. The performance was amazing in the 3 games I tried it in lol. CS GO, BF3 and Pro Evolution 2012 xD. Only one demanding title.... Due to a fresh OS install.

If wasting £100 is nothing to you then what is stopping you?. The 670 is very close to performance though and the £100 difference isn't worth it.

Good luck with your purchase.

I've been waiting for GTX 670 prices just to drop a bit, but that hasn't happened in many months. So I'm not sure I'd even bother going for GTX 670 any longer... and 2nd hand GTX 670 are a rare sight.

Was looking into getting a GTX 680 but the prices are quite steep, any chance of a price drop in the near future ?
Considering your CPU, you best check the GPU usage of your 6970 to make sure if it's using to 99% in the games you play first, before even considering upgrading your graphic card.

670 close to 680 is that nvidia's marketing failure?

It's always like that. Top end cards are generally not worth the asking price, whereas the second top card is much better value.

It's the same situation with the 7950 to the 7970. More performance, but not worth the extra cost, and definitely not enough performance that you couldn't make up with a bit of overclocking.

spending more money on PC components is a case of diminishing returns
an item can be double the price but only 10% better than the one that's half the price (just look at intel CPU's)

12.8's give another 3% in Bf3 aswell apparently. They've outdone themselves with the last 2 releases.
