Earning NCB on second car?

Taken from the Admiral site:

So I think we're both slightly wrong. It looks like it is each person on a policy that acrues NCB. But that still looks to me like you can't take multiple NCB to other insurers from a multicar policy.

That's something slightly different. A lot of insurance companies only give NCB to the insurer. All that is saying is unlike other companies at the end of the policy admiral will give prove of NCB to each driver on the policy.

If it was a multi-car policy - you only earn NCB on one car.

If they were insured seperately, you earn NCB on both cars.

That's my understanding... at least.

I had two sets of NCB years ago, very convenient as when I crashed I lost all of the NCB so switched over to using the second set of NCB and running only one car :D

You can have any number of policies with NCB building however you can't insure the same car twice or use two NCBs on one car. If you stop insuring a car for too long the NCB will lapse...

My mum had 10 NCB on a car and then got a multicar policy. They mirrored it and gave 10 NCB on each car.

I was told at the time I took out the policy that after one year she would have 11 NCB on each car (ie x2)...but the test will be if/when she moves a car away from Admiral multicar.

Then she will only have 11 years NCB total... it won't magically double to 22

Only Admiral will "honour" it on both cars

People saying that each policy accrues it's own NCB are correct.
I have 2 cars on 2 policies. I have 9 years NCB on one policy and 0 years NCB on the other.
As the first car NCB is in use, I can't use it on my second car.
Next year, I will have 10 years NCB on my first car and 1 year on my second car.
If I were to go back to just having 1 car, I could use either the 10 years or the 1 year, not both. I can keep hold of the 1 year bonus for 2 years without insuring a vehicle with it at which point I lose it.

If you insured 10 cars for a year, you would have 10 x 1 year bonuses but you could only apply 1 bonus to 1 policy and so if you went back to a single car, you would have 1 year of NCB to apply to it. You could choose which 1 year bonus you want to apply but you can't apply more than 1.
