It seems the CEO of Ubisoft thinks that 93-95% of PC gamers are pirates and the only way to make money in some territories is with the free to play model.

He also says that Ubisoft are basically pinning their hopes on the next generation of consoles to save them.

I'd say to him that if you gave paying customers a better experience than pirates and optimize your games for PC and actually released some decent games, then you'd find that PC gamers are more than happy to part with their cash for a quality product.

I'd also like to add that Valve have made money in Russia without adopting the free to play model by giving their customers a service that piracy doesn't offer.

To be honest, with my experience of Ubisoft games, I wouldn't even pirate them. They seem ok on consoles but for the PC they are usually poorly optimized ports. And Uplay is the worst interface I've experienced. During the Steam Summer Sale, it went down and there wasn't a single post on their forums from anyone explaining what was going on.

Lets be honest, If the game is something special and they bang in a pre-order early release most of us pc gamers will buy it. If it's just some rehashed console port is there any wonder we don't want to spend £30+ on it?

Pirate them? I can't remember the last time i even wanted to play an Ubisoft game since Farcry which is sitting on my shelf. Perhaps if they made better games...

93-95% of pc gamers simply realized that a lot of ubisofts releases in recent years have been DRM riddled rubbish I wouldn't even bless my backside with as toilet paper out of fear of infection

I used to absolutely love the earlier Settlers games (1,2,3), Ubisoft had something which truely stood apart from their competitors and not only threw it away, but alienated their paying customers in the process

These guys are in their own world... they are just mad because stuff like settlers 2 which got rereleased on GOG is actually outselling some of their stuff today :P

as much as Ubisoft are a bunch of ***** when it comes to certain things they do make some quality games, Heroes of Might & Magic and the Anno series spring to mind.

After the DRM issue ive had with Anno 2070 ill never buy another ubi game again as the customer service has been horrible, would love to get my hands on one of the main fattys and shout into his fat cat face "STOP BEING AN **** HOLE !!!!!!"

Ubi should release something worth playing on the PC

Anno 2070.

DRM has been ****y for ages from Ubisoft now, and they've dug themselves such a hole with their attitude that they're a laughing stock.

I'll still play Anno regardless though, I don't want to miss playing a great game over it.

Ubisoft are there just for porting console games and for making 6 release day titles of 5/10 quality for every single new console that comes out.

What an ass. Gabe Newell might have something to say about that. Ubisoft might want to release games that A) are worth playing B) work all the time, not when their servers want to and C) aren't riddled with draconian DRM that treats paying customers as potential criminals in order to "save themselves"

For these reasons Ubi can go under for all I care, there might be room for more/better games with them gone

Piracy is just the boogey man they use to cover for poor sales, it's better for their image to blame piracy and make out their games were a huge success in pirate land than to admit their games simply sucked and sold badly as a result.

Make a world wide release on the same date, that is all I ask.

When the game comes out on console, launch it on PC too, when a game comes out in America, launch it world wide. I'm inpatient, I don't want to have to wait to play a game I've paid for while others who payed the same can play it earlier than me and those who pirate can play it earlier than me.

Remember that as CEO he's answerable to shareholders for poor performance. "It's all those ebil piwates" sounds a lot better than "I'm doing a **** job of running the company".
