Hey guys, before I asked people on here to spec me a new car and got some good suggestions but I'm going to be putting a bit more cash forward now, and I need 1 urgently. I was driving around yesterday after filling my car with petrol and the engine went dead, with the car literally spraying petrol over the road. It was going to be scrapped soon anyway, so I'm not going to get it repaired, I just need a new 1 ASAP.

Priorities:
Reliability > Decent MPG > Styling > Speed

The car MUST be reliable, and I want some decent MPG on it too, 40-50 at least. My mate has been suggesting a Honda Civic Type S and won't shut up about it. Someone else was suggesting a Kia Pro cee'd, which although doesn't look great and the speed is pretty crap, has a reliability factor through the roof as I'd have a full 7 year warranty on it, coupled with low insurance, tax and a decent 60-70 MPG combined.

I really want to hear your suggestions before I take a plunge for anything. I'll be looking on auto trader, a postcode near-by to me is: MK45 1LX, so if you hunt around on there and find something you can see if it's relatively close by. 11k is my utter maximum, but will happily take anything for less if possible, a good mark is 8k, but I want something that's going to last me a while.

Cheers lads.

How about a megane, the new shape is nice and if you get the tom tom spec it comes with tons of extras, You can pick up a semi new/ ex demo for sub 10k.

The 1.5 110BHP dci engine is great and will give you good MPG and 30 pound tax.

All the reviews suggest they have upped their game and I am looking to get one myself for cost price from a dealership my dad works at.

I will not go into exact figures on a public forum but it is a significant saving for effectively an ex demo, and the OP could get a megane for under 10k in the new shape decent spec.

How many miles do you do per year, what sort of driving, what size / body style of car would you like?

Sorry, forgot the most important info.

Milage will be roughly 7-8k a year as it stands now. Just general driving, A to B. Not much more is needed. Size I can deal with anything, no preference on size at all but a Coupe or hatchback most likely.

Get the burst fuel line fixed then take your time to properly research your next purchase?

I was going to purchase soon anyway, not wanting to spend more money on a car which will be scrapped in a few weeks.

What makes the engine great?

My inferior opinion, but it feels nippy, maintains a good drive with decent MPG. It wont blow anyones socks off but to me that qualifies as a good engine in my book, however if it is infact terrible please tell me. :)

I only mentioned it originally as an alternative to the focus/mondeo recomendations (they are fantastic I know) as it is good to get differant ideas every now and then.

I've been in a 1.5 Megane, It certainly was not nippy! It certainly doesn't sound suitable for the OP as he's less than 10k a year, so he'll want a nice simple petrol car.

OP, how about a tidy Mk2 Focus, 1.6 Petrol - pretty good on fuel, can get shedloads of good examples for well under £8k. No point in a diesel based on your requirements, too few miles to warrant the higher potential repair bills that modern Diesel brings with it (DPF, injectors, DMF, turbo, dagadagadaga etc)

Forget diesel. Get a 1.6 focus or 2.0 mondeo petrol variant.

Cost saving by MPG is not even noteworthy at such a low annual mileage, and petrol cars are cheaper to buy, cheaper to fill up and less things to go wrong.
