Windows won't go past welcome screen after installing AMD drivers

Okay, yesterday, I got a HIS 7950 - had an issue with the fan (which I RMA'd it for) it wouldn't drop below 100%, but that's got nothing to to with anything, short story for that card, it had the same issue that my RMA replacement has (FYI - an ASUS Direct CU II Top 7950). So I'm guessing it isn't the fault of the GPU (unless both had the exact same issue but that's unlikely...)

So - first of all, I reinstalled Windows, totally fresh Windows 7 Professional install; the PC loaded fine with the default windows drivers, I can use the PC as normal - but obviously with with windows driver, games aren't really playable.
I installed the AMD driver and it asked to restart (as you normally would do). After this, it just freezes on the Windows welcome screen, nothing I do at this point helps, no matter how many times I try restarting, it always freezes there - The only fix is to load safe mode and do a system restore to before the AMD Catalyst driver was installed.

CPU: Intel i5 2500k
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67-m Pro
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair
PSU: Corsair TX750

Everything was working fine last week - with the above specs but with a reference HD5770 1GB. Both 7950s I've tried do the same thing. I can't think of anything at all that it can be, I've tried everything I can think of and have been googling all day to find a way to get it to work, it's utterly depressing and I really want a solution :( I just want to play with my new 7950....

Just waiting for the computer to finish installing virus software, taking ages.... Will try as soon as I can...

What storage devices are you using ?

PNY 120GB SSD as primary for OS, 500GB Samsung HDD as storage.

?

My overclock used to freeze me at the same point randomly until I juiced some more volts in. If you haven't already try putting some more through.
Haven't got anything overclocked at the moment. (not any more than usual anyway, the GPU came overclocked, can't change that without the driver being installed :P)

Try disabling the 500GB Samsung HDD storage in the BIOS and see if it boots up and then reboot re enable the 500GB Samsung HDD storage in the BIOS.

can try sticking in the windows cd and do a start up repair or system restore to before you had problems
I tried that, the computer does start up, it just won't log in and load the desktop

It only refuses to go past the welcome screen with the AMD driver installed, it loads fine without it, could the secondary storage really be to blame?

Well yesterday i had to disable my secondary storage as it would just stay on the welcome screen, did what i mention to you and all is well again, but that could be just harddrive on the way out.

Can you get into safe mode?

If you can I would remove the amd drivers and see if that works.

Yes I can get into safe mode, it works without the AMD drivers, I'm pretty sure they're what's causing it...

Okay, that's number 2 on the to try list! lol. Eating at the second so will be 10-15 mins :P

What version of AMD drivers did you have installed? You could try and find a older version of the driver and see if that works?
