Why is the UK not religious anymore?

The devolution of religion is a logical step in the evolution of mankind.

Exactly. kwerk seems to be under the strange delusion (among many others) that religion is a good thing. It isn't. It the very best it unnecessary, at worst it is dangerous.

I suppose it depends on the religion. A country without religious influence is like NK or China. What you need to ask yourself is if you removed religion completely from the UK what would it be like, do you think we would all be as educated, inspired and moral.

The more educated a people, the more critically they can think and the more rational they are, therefore believe in fewer fairy tails and superstitions

I'm afraid not. Things are going to get much much worse, not better, for mankind.

The idea that we're rational thinkers is nonsense. We're driven by instincts primarily, just like any other species. It's going to take a very long time to override millions of years of killing, raping, climbing trees and throwing **** around. By which time we'll be out of resources. Which we'll continue to fight each other for. It's all doom and gloom.

If we were logical we might stop driving cars for instance.

What the deuce? How do you imagine a society without religion will end up a communist dictatorship? North Korea in particular is one of the most religious theocracies going; they believe (or are forced to believe) that their dear leader is a God.

Would we still be as educated, inspired and moral if we were all atheists? Yes. Probably more so, given religion's power to stifle critical thought.

That has nothing to do with what I said, so why you quoted me I have no idea.

Just in case anyone cares I do think organized religion does more harm than good. It's influence is scary. The stupid buildings erected and treated with respect are a very scary example of utter stupidity (although some have a nice atmosphere). This is nothing compared to the wars/atrocities that are waged though.

However I think this is a separate issue to 'having spirituality'. e.g. respect for the dead, etc.

I also think moral values are derived primarily from needs of society rather than religion/spirituality. i.e. some sort of understanding that local cohesiveness is generally better.

Also, lolkwerk.

Do you believe in God Alan?

Yes.

What is he?

God is...er...a gas...

What does that mean?

Well he's not small...not like calor gas...

Why do you think the UK and Europe in general is hardly religious at all anymore but America is still very religious?

I would argue that the UK is indeed still religious but Christianity has been replaced with the secular religion of Equality (political correctness or whatever you wish to call it). The state is the equivalent of God and politicians and celebrities are the clergy. The state is expected to take care of every detail of your life, and politicians/celebrities are wise sages who interpret how how the world works and how it should work. TV has replaced the pulpit. Scientists are a lower-clergy subordinate to the state/TV clergy. If one of them accidentally says something in conflict with God's word (like Nobel laureate James Watson) he is excommunicated and cast out in to the wilderness.

The religion rests on the simple premise that everyone is 100% equal. However there is as much science to support this principle as there is to support Christianity. "Fairness" (godlyness) is exalted above all else.

Heave is some mystical land where every square mile of earth has exactly the same ethnic diversity as every other square mile of earth. There wonderful paradise is free of poverty and hate and racism (and white heterosexual males and rich people). Everyone is equal and everything is fair and the State smiles down upon us all as we sing culturally diverse songs and snuggle unicorns.

Hell is America.

Anyone who questions this religion is a racist (heretic) or a nazi (witch), or just plain stupid and ignorant, and should obviously be committed to a mental institution or prison for re-education.

And with that I have described the religious beliefs of GD and the UK in general.

Discuss.

Who cares, Islam will always be the WORLD's number one fastest growing religion, even in Britain. Shame you let your religion slip :p

I'm glad I'm not a part of the worlds fastest growing delusion but whatever floats your boat :D
