The law around windscreen obstructions

Are there any?

Having followed a woman tonight who had both her phone and a Sat nav stuck to the middle of her windscreen, I simply can't see how its legal? Given that a small chip in the screen can be an MOT failure, surely they can regulate massive obstructions stuck to the windscreen? Something like nothing can be stuck inside the driver side wiper sweep, maybe?

couldn't agree more! I hate having anything in the way, including dirt on the screen! My satnav is tucked as far into the bottom corner as it can go.
I want to mount my phone somewhere, but only for torque pro, so the current thought is over the DIN pocket below the stereo. Couldn't have something else in the windscreen!

I've seen people with the nav device mounted right in the centre of the driver's field of vision, above the dash.

It's the VAG drivers that get me. Driving with a Lei hanging from their rear view mirror. How can they see anything on their left side?

Mate does that in his slammed jaipur red A2. I always wrap it around to get it out of the way. I didn't realise it was a silly "scene" thing.

Last MOT i had, the cradle for my phone was stuck to the windscreen. I had an advisory stating 'had to clear obstacles from windscreen' or something to that effect, and the cradle was left in the passenger seat.

Not a fail, but they said they had to note it down on the sheet nontheless.

It wasn't obstructing my view either, it was low down and central to the screen but hey ho.

What if you had stick your tax disc right there instead? :p

Having it low down in the middle doesn't obstruct your view, infact I find having it to the side can sometimes increase the size of the pillar blind spot.

You have the catch all of driving without due care and attention. I've seen this before too and it really does begger belief. It's in the same league as people who drive with port holes in frosty weather.

Few months back, I spotted one woman who had cunningly located her satnav smack bang in the middle of the driver’s side of the windscreen, head height.

I can only assume in the months after natural selection has taken place......

Satnav in the middle of the screen really annoys me. Why the hell does anyone but the driver need to see it? Put it on the far right of the screen, low down near the pillar.

I put mine there, (right hand side) it annoys me in the middle but I suppose it depends what car you're in and what the dash layout is like.

I've seen an iPad as Sat Nav in peoples LoS, just amazing

Now that is a true SKN moment.
