A man caught doing 180mph in a police chase on the M6....!!

News is a joke, they make out he was jailed for doing 180mph, not for nicking the car and doing a shed load of raids with it. It was the speed that jailed him.

I remember a few of our night shift drivers commenting on this back in January!

At the time, I thought it was the usual bs... :o

One thing I'd like to know, he's got 9 years, so will be out in 4.5ish if he's a good boy, thing is, he's got a 4 year driving ban, would that start once he's released or will he be 6 months past the ban upon release??

Oh and what a ****, shame he did not kill himself. ( I have no time for people who drive like that on a public road, getaway driver or not!)

After, used to be whilst you're in prison, so now if you're on day release... you can legally drive.

This was my brother's car! Had pretty much every option, but definitely no V10 engine.

His replacement does have a V10 engine though...

Several points:

1. The 'sparks' were probably just the twin exhausts glowing on an IR camera.

2. 180mph - I'd be HUGELY surprised if they accurately measured this. My guess is that, at some point in time the car was outrunning the supposed 178mph helicopter with total disregard for wind speed, etc.

3. 180mph isn't a crazy speed in something like an RS5. The suspension will cope well, the brakes will deal reasonably well with a (single) sudden stop. I'm hoping that the 9 years is weighted heavily on the fact that the guy has been a repeated thieving **** over his driving antics.

Lolz, I use that petrol station!

I can see why he drove off, bloody expensive :/

Made me laugh :D its not cheap is it!

However its less funny when I think how much I drive around that area and the roads from Wolverhampton to the M6....dont fancy some nutter crashing into me...still, another criminal scumbag banged up, happy days!

lambo dont make the v10

its made by audi ;)

VAG own the whole show as far as I'm concerned. There are so many mainstream news articles quoting RS owners as having 'Lamborghini engined' and 'Lamborghini braked' cars.

Yes, they're great in their own right, but reeling out the Lambo spiel isn't pretty.

It's OK, Ayrton Senna hand crafted the NSX

180mph on smooth tarmac'd run way in an RS5 isn't crazy. 180mph on a rut filled motorway with cars pulling out, in the dark is indeed "crazy speed". Doing 180mph in most cars, i imagine, is scary indeed.

It's not, really. I've done very near that on the road and it's about the least scary thing you can imagine; the scenery is just changing faster.

Having done a little over 150 indicated I can imagine 180 being quite scary. It's a matter of perception and experience I guess.

Inclined to agree with PMKeates, I did touched 160mph on an autobahn and it wasn't scary, faster than I was used to and you have to appreciate the speed you're doing but I wasn't exactly pooing myself at the thought of going that fast.
