Mark Chapman denied parole for 7th time

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19359965

I am in no way condoning what he did and i'm not saying he should be freed, but he was given 20 years to life for the murder of John Lennon. He has now served 32 years. Parole refused because it would trivialise Lennon's murder.

I would just like to see what would have happened if he had shot a non famous, every day citizen.

He probably wouldn't have done it if it was an Every day citizen, he did it for Notoriety as far as I know. Which in my own personal opinion is a pretty stupid idea if he thought he would be treated any differently.

But he is being treated differently.

I think it's more likely that the public would be a danger to him, rather than the other way around, if he ever gets out. I can imagine there's a fair few people who'd want a piece of this trash.

Well he can think of himself luck in a way because if if did the deed in florida he would have got the chair.

And I would have plugged it in for free :)

If a judge did release him he would be dead in a day so in another way they are protecting him.

this

He should count himself lucky not to have been fried. He wanted to be a somebody and now he carry on being a nobody for the rest of his life.

Guys you do know he is in prison in the US, don't you?
This is not trivial.
Most folks do fourty years there and are denied parole over and over and over.
He hasn't do that yet.

If he was in the UK we'd have let him out ages ago so he could do the book selling tour, magazine interviews, hello articles.
I am glad that for murder in the US you get 20-life, and it means significantly more than twenty. Rather than our situation where we give life, meaning thirty, out after 17-20 with good behaviour.

because of who he murdered isnt he likely to go on to profit financially from his crime should he be released?

there will be plenty of people willing to pay for his story.

Murder a celebrity and get locked away forever.
Murder a bum and stay in for 15 years come out and your life is ruined anyway.

Murder anyone and i don't really have any sympathy for the murderer, i hope the rest of their life is agonising with a hint of hope.

Hmm you day you get out after 15 years, have you any source for that in the US, where normal murders get out after 15?

He did it for the notoriety so this could well be the way they are viewing it, stopping him from getting the thing he was after.

The guy is a fruitloop if you know anything at all about him or what he has done in his life. Im convinced if he is let out he would kill again, no doubt about it.

quoting wiki here:

"Chapman said he started planning to kill Lennon while in Hawaii three months prior to the murder, after seeing him on the cover of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. He also said that he had a list of people in mind, including Johnny Carson, Elizabeth Taylor, George C. Scott, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, but that John Lennon seemed to be the easiest to find"

yeh poor guy, lets let him out
