Building site - strange black boxes being buried

So, next door to my office is a building site, where they are building some flats.
They have already dug, and filled the foundations with concrete.

However, over the last few days, they have dug a very large, and deep hole away from the location of the actual flats (where the car parking is going to be). It's around 3 metres deep, and about 5 metres square.

They had several trucks take away all the removed earth, but have now filled the bottom part of this hole with several black boxes.

These boxes are about milk crate size, but are not solid. They have holes going though them all ways (again similar to a milk crate, but more uniform and slightly more dense).

I have no idea what this could be? Does any one know?

Ignore this guy, he's probably on their payroll. His oh-so-convenient 'facts' sound impressive until you realise that they're smoke and mirrors to hide the real reason : that they are placing those alien remains where no one will ever look.
