Guild Wars 2

Compared to the previous beta releases of the game, I'm glad to see that the performance issues have been dealt with. Been getting some stunning fps so far, so glad they fixed that.

I only played the first beta weekend and things have definitely improved visually and performance wise. I only really played elemental and thief, I'm someone that tends to play a class until I find one I love then stick with it. Tried thief at first as I was really underwhelmed by the damage output and how easily he died. Elemental was far easier to play and not much has changed in release.

I've found that Ultra shadows and super sampling re the most taxing options. Turning them both on using my set-up knocked off 20 fps straight away!

Managed to play for 2 or 3 hours this morning. Playing as a Norn Ranger. Currently at lvl 11.

The long bow was my weapon of choice for the betas but the damage seems to have been reduced and killing stuff seems much slower, so I've been using a short bow instead so far. Enjoying kiting mobs around and laying traps etc. If they get in too close i switch to the greatsword and finish them off.

Started doing a bit of crafting, which Im really enjoying. I like the way you have to craft the individual elements of weapons/armour as well as the item itself. It makes it more interesting and satisfying when you finally make something decent.

Managed to complete all the objectives in the Norn town(points of interest/vistas/portals) and have been given some transmod(or something) stones. Im guessing these let me make an item look like another?

The game feels so much better now I know I can play and not get deleted/reset, like in the betas. Loving the game so far.

Been at the zoo with my daughter (she's 2 today), seems like I spent my time far more effectively than most of the guild :P

Hope is back up soon, I won't be playing today at all I think but it's a bit annoying for those who only get a good session in at weekends.

I started this morning with a human ranger (continuing the legacy from my ranger in GW1)
So far I'm not overly impressed with the rangers damage output or abilities, but then again I didn't get very far so I presume once I unlock more skills/traits/weapons things should be more interesting.
However I'm getting the overall impression rangers are gonna be Jack of all trades but masters of none, just like in the first GW.

So far the only thing that has annoyed me is that I can't get access to my 50/50 HoM and the servers are a tad laggy at times, but that's to be expected.

How about anyone else's first impressions?

Well, I never played the first gw, and im not much of an MMO fan tbh. Ive started with an asuran engie. Like you im not amazed by the dmg output but then i was under the impression eng would be a cc orientated class. I've turned off shadows and reflections and my fps is now adequate, bearing in mind im still running a q6600/4870 toxic :(

It was a tad laggy in and around busy areas, but that is hardly surprising. Overall i quite enjoyed. The only other MMO ive played for any length of time was Ultima about a million years ago.

This has made my day. They can take as long as they want now.

I think you have to do jump puzzles or something which involves reaching certain areas using platforms. You are then shown these vistas and given a reward, I have limited knowledge on this though.

edit: too damn slowww

My client downloader is downloading at 1 or 0kb/s

was hoping to finish the remaining 1 GB this morning and jump into the game.

But client downloading is totally unresponsive. Anyone else?

Same as everyone else but I have to ask - what made you think you'd be OK patching on head start day? No MMO ever has decent patch services on the day the over-eager public get a head start :)
