I don't care what anyone says, smoking is cool

This thread would really have had a different tone entirely if he had stated that smoking cannabis was cool... The (tragic) majority opinion in GD seems to be that spliffs is fine and should be legal.

So basically, shut the hell up.

No one said smoking wasn't fine and shouldn't be legal.

But starting a thread saying "smoking is cool" is an immature stance that will attract an immature response. You might enjoy smoking, you might be addicted, whatever, but it's not a one way ticket to social acceptance, given that it makes you stink and brings about obvious health problems. Only kids think it's cool to smoke.

If the thread had been about cannabis, I'm certain the response would be the same. People's opinions on how social it is doesn't have to have any relation to their opinions regarding it's legality.

I dream of a day when the forum auto-swaps insults and replaces them with kwerk. 'Stop being such a kwerk' etc. Would be a glorious sight to see.

The drizzle has turned to rain now and you can hear the raindrops falling all around you but you're cosy and dry, the wet wood is bringing out the smell of the trees.

Then you ruin it with the STINK of lighting / smoking a cigarette, yeah really cool.

More like "The drizzle has turned to rain now and you can hear the raindrops falling all around you but you're cosy and dry, the wet wood is bringing out the smell of the trees or it would if someone wasn't smoking a dirty cigarette"

Smoking is disgusting and i get sick of having to walk behind people smoking in the street, getting their dirty, stinking smoke in my face !

Since when has "racist against x" been a figure of speech, in anything other than an ironically moronic tone?
There is no such thing as a document of figures of speech. So using "Since" to refer to the age of a figure of speech used in a sentence constructed this morning by one's intellect is stupid.

It's like saying: "Since when has "The quick brown fox is gay." been a sentence?"
Or "Since when has "What is the time?" been a question?"

No it isn't, because "racist" has never been a synonym for "discriminatory". But you seem to be implying that it is by calling it a figure of speech. So I am questioning when it became acceptable to use completely the wrong words because they strike more of a cultural chord, then pass it off as a figure of speech?

Erm...

Racists discriminate. The whole point of it being a figure of speech is that it isn't a synonym lol. That's the whole point. If it was a synonym of "discriminative" it would simply be a synonym of discriminative and not a figure of speech.

Can't believe I'm explaining this. Back to school GD lol. When does new year start again?

I noticed a lot of people seem to be racist against smokers on the forum  I though it would be nice to have a smoker's pride thread celebrating the goodness of smoking. The pleasure of truly savouring a cigarette.

Imagine your self hiking... the weather is cool and it starts to drizzle. You look around and see an inviting tree with big branches and a perfect spot to shelter beneath. There's a moss covered mound to sit against, it's soft and dry and perfectly comfortable. The drizzle has turned to rain now and you can hear the raindrops falling all around you but you're cosy and dry, the wet wood is bringing out the smell of the trees.

You reach in your pocket and feel that packet of fags... it fits in your hand so perfectly. It opens solidly and satisfyingly to present you with the 16 fags left inside. You pick one and draw it out of the packet. You tentatively lick your lips slightly, then wipe the spittle away with a knuckle. You put the cigarette in your mouth while you fish around in your gear for the lighter, all the time you can smell the tantalizingly delicious fresh tobacco under your nose.

With a flick of your thumb there's a warm flame in front of you. You get that first whiff of smoke... delicious. Go ahead and take a draw... savour those wonderful flavours... then feel that tingle as you inhale the smoke. It's absolutely wonderful. You hold it in your lungs for a moment and exhale. As you exhale all your worries and tension leave your body encapsulated within the smoke. You have been cleansed... your insides feel warm, as if you are lying back in to a warm bath. Aaahhhhhh :D

You study the warm glow of the cigarette while listening to your surroundings. All you can hear is the rain, deadened by the trees. Beyond that it's absolute silence. You are completely alone, just you, the wilderness and this cigarette. You feel the warm smoke dance around your fingers while you lie back and sink in to the dry moss and bracken. Close your eyes and take another drag.

This guy knows what I'm talking 'bout

That sounds like a lovely, peaceful scene, ruined by the foul stench of lung cancer.

So by that logic he could have used absolutely any word instead of racist and it would be excusable a good English because its a figure of speech?

Oh please. Don't pass off perfectly legitimate criticisms of your argument as stupidity or mis-education, especially arguments on English while you're peppering your sentences with "lol"s.
