I don't care what anyone says, smoking is cool

Nothing cool about the increased risk of heart disease and cancer. It genuinely surprises me that anyone even thinks about smoking these days what with our increased awareness on the effects of smoking. An odd reflection of the personality of mankind I guess.

Some belief that the benefit outweighs the risk, and not just in smoking but pretty much any activity.

I noticed a lot of people seem to be racist against smokers on the forum  I though it would be nice to have a smoker's pride thread celebrating the goodness of smoking. The pleasure of truly savouring a cigarette.

Imagine your self hiking... the weather is cool and it starts to drizzle. You look around and see an inviting tree with big branches and a perfect spot to shelter beneath. There's a moss covered mound to sit against, it's soft and dry and perfectly comfortable. The drizzle has turned to rain now and you can hear the raindrops falling all around you but you're cosy and dry, the wet wood is bringing out the smell of the trees.

You reach in your pocket and feel that packet of fags... it fits in your hand so perfectly. It opens solidly and satisfyingly to present you with the 16 fags left inside. You pick one and draw it out of the packet. You tentatively lick your lips slightly, then wipe the spittle away with a knuckle. You put the cigarette in your mouth while you fish around in your gear for the lighter, all the time you can smell the tantalizingly delicious fresh tobacco under your nose.

With a flick of your thumb there's a warm flame in front of you. You get that first whiff of smoke... delicious. Go ahead and take a draw... savour those wonderful flavours... then feel that tingle as you inhale the smoke. It's absolutely wonderful. You hold it in your lungs for a moment and exhale. As you exhale all your worries and tension leave your body encapsulated within the smoke. You have been cleansed... your insides feel warm, as if you are lying back in to a warm bath. Aaahhhhhh :D

You study the warm glow of the cigarette while listening to your surroundings. All you can hear is the rain, deadened by the trees. Beyond that it's absolute silence. You are completely alone, just you, the wilderness and this cigarette. You feel the warm smoke dance around your fingers while you lie back and sink in to the dry moss and bracken. Close your eyes and take another drag.

This guy knows what I'm talking 'bout

You're an addict, and the story is crap.

It's not cool and neither are you.

True fact: smoking cigarettes actually nueroprotective against developing Alzeihmers, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia.

http://www.epda.eu.com/en/parkinsons/in-depth/managing-your-parkinsons/neuroprotection/research/other-neuroprotective-factors/

Smoking - whilst we do not endorse or advocate the smoking of cigarettes because of the many health risks associated with it, studies have consistently suggested a link between cigarette smoking and Parkinson’s, leading to theories that smoking - in particular nicotine - may be neuroprotective. In animal studies nicotine has been found to stimulate the release of dopamine in the brain and to preserve neurons and dopamine levels.

One study3 found that former smokers had a 22% lower risk of developing Parkinson's and current smokers had a 73% lower risk compared to those who had never smoked and were thought to have a ‘normal’ risk for developing the condition. In fact, there was found to be a correlation between the risk of developing Parkinson’s and the number of years of smoking, the number of years since stopping smoking and the number of cigarettes smoked per day. Whilst smoking does of course have other risks, it does appear to offer neuroprotective properties.

Its all very well protecting against Parkinson's but its not much use if you've spent years abusing the main organs of the body.

You know, somebody desperately trying to give up smoking just because society tells them it's evil is not much different from that poor black kid 40 years ago sitting in a bath tub trying to scrub his skin white with bleach.

That kid was Michael Jackson.

Dont know if anyone has said this but ill say it...Kwerk please kindly STFU and stop with these stupid inane threads you make.

Your one sick sick puppy. How you have managed to stay here for so long without being banned for your stupid inane threads is truly beyond me.

Just please please stop and go back to your holding cell, your well past your curfew.

I'm not addicted at all in fact I've been able to give up smoking at least 10 times before. It's not difficult.

I actually only smoke every 72 hours in order to give my body time to repair and over-compensate for the oxidation stress.

It's part of my preconditioning lifestyle protocols I have developed.

You can read the basics of this principle in this NewScientist article:

Are you smoking more than cigs?

Not much worse than binge drinking and eating refined sugar and trans fats. Enjoy your fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, etc.

Flavour, relaxation, social interaction, enabling a habit. Ask yourself what risky activities you do, and why. Chances are, a lot of the reasoning can be extrapolated to smoking as well.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion of course but these are not benefits. The flavour is just a by product of the substance. Relaxation is just a mask, it is not true relaxation in the sense in that the substance is extremely harmful to many of the vital organs of the body. Relaxation implies that it is good for the body and the mind, smoking does neither of these things. It may bring short term relief but at a true cost.

I dont really do any risky activities but thats just me. Im not saying people shouldn't be allowed to smoke, just that to argue in its favour is truly irrational.

I dont drink. I am also quite particular about the volume of food and what I eat. You can't say well one bad habit isn't much worse than another bad habit. It doesn't make it any better for you nor does it make any more sense to continue to do it.

Coming from somebody who fell for the old smoking habit whilst at school I can categorically say that no, it's not cool, it tastes horrific, makes you smell, costs you money and is damaging to your health.

Tobacco does smell lovely before it's burning though.

Your story sounds more like something a heroin addict from Train Spotting would come out with about shooting up.

So they're smokists?

Absolutely

Or why don't you just not open and post in one of his threads?
Easy peasy lemon squeasy.
A lot of us enjoy his threads and GD is a better place for them.

I quit a few months ago but this post made me realise how nice it was to have a fag to relax. It is pathetic though as many have pointed out. You're just feeding an addiction, and an addiction that makes you older looking, smelly and a major under performing human being in general is not cool.

Correct me if i'm wrong kwerk, but don't you spend lots of money on grooming products? Don't you think it's retarded that you do this, yet continue to smoke?
