So the other day I reversed into my neighbours car like a retard. I always always check left and right and then the back...for some reason today I didnt look to the rear and reversed into the car at ..oh I dunno...0.4mph or whatever a slow reverse is while backing out. Left a small dent.

My neighbours are the best I could ever ask for, really easy going and comforted me saying it could happen to anyone and not to worry. I said to let me know the costs and I'll cut them a check for the amount. They also thanked me for being honest, they said they had been hit before while it was parked but no note was left.

Anyways - my idiot fault for not looking. But I wanted to mention something else to get it off my chest. While I was reversing a dude was walking up the sidewalk coming up to where I was reversing. He had a big grin..I saw him looking and smiling..but it never struck me why..obviously he could see I was gonna bump the car behind me about 4 seconds before contact...but chose not to shout a warning.

I would have. In fact Ive done it at a friends wedding when this girl was backing up and was gonna go into the side of a van behind her when I hollered at her. She was so thankful and relieved.

Its not that guys fault I bumped the car, its mine. But it just made me wonder...he enjoyed watching that, made me wonder about people ya know...a shout from him would have really saved me ££ and heck I would have invited him in for a drink and pizza.

Hopefully you guys and gals out there will encounter more help along lifes path by random strangers!

In the meantime - always assume theres SOMETHING behind you when youre reversing - look. Learn from my inexcusable error :(

skipping aside from the fact that the guy is a complete arse, how empty must that guy's life be that a crash at speeds even a snail would call dwardling be an amazing event worth watching?

the closest situation i've been in to that guy was when someone was trying to parallel park in a very tight space and holding up a load of traffic, so being the gentleman i guided them in. i bet the guy in your situation would have just wandered off though

with all the killing around the world without excuse, the standing by of world leaders while the planets children starve and die of malnutrition,

nothing surprises me about the human condition, dont let this either

there are just a lot of dumb ****s out there, who, like G-MAN sais, like to watch the world burn.

at least he's not your neighbor ehh?

Maybe he was happy about something else and thought you were going to stop, so carried on, because 4 seconds long enough to see a car behind you.

Thanks guys your replies have made me feel better :) as I feel v stupid for this careless mistake I made.

You invite people into your house for telling you to 'watch out'? What a manwhore! :p

Lol :p

True, and I'll never know of course what he was smiling about. But he was looking at me with a big grin as I was just about 3mtrs away and watching...and of course the grin got nice and big when he saw the *BUMP* then he sped up and continued his walk grinning. No doubt my ears should be burning now as I'll be the subject of the evening when he goes to the bar with his buddies. "So today I saw this knob reversing yeh..and right behind him..."

And very true quote. One I wont forget believe me lol.

This is true..Im glad HEs not my neighbour! I honestly count myself real lucky to have such good ones.

The guy assumed you were looking where you were going.. Is this your first time reversing? Some times people (me included) go a few cm from an obsticle while manovering I would not expect people jumping up and down waving their arms...

[A] = me
= parked

No excuse I know - dumb mistake. No doubt huge fee to fix the dent and a lesson learned.

As I say..its not his fault, but that girl I screamed at to stop @ my friends wedding was doing the same thing. Backing up with a vehicle parked directly behind while making no attempt to turn away...just heading straight back. Thats what I saw that made me wave my hands and holler and she hit the brakes about 20mm from the van. I wish this dude had even insulted me with a "Hey dumbass lookout behind" and it would have made my day lol.

Again..I cant read his mind and Im not judging just thinking aloud!

Try telling people how to drive, that there tyres need inflating, to indicate, to not tail gate, to not run pedestrian crossing when pedestrians are trying to cross.

You don't get good reactions. At your friends wedding then yes maybe with people you know you get a better reaction/thanks, but strangers not so much.

This is very true I have to say. And its something I didnt think about. Maybe HE was concerned I would jump out and throw a hissy fit @ him for saying something so he just minds his own business. Cant say I can blame him lol.

when I bumped another car in the same situation, the other party immediately went through insurers and cost me 3 years no claims even though I offered to sort it. At least your neighbors are better people than the bloke watching.

Did you have your windows up OP?

May be he didn't think you could hear him.

May be he thinks you had it covered and shouting would distract you and then you blame him.

May be he finds it funny. A bit of comedy relief because he had a bad day.

May be he can't speak.

I had a car load of stuff once, I couldn't see out the back properly so I was reversing very slowly just in case.
Bumped a car that had pulled in behind me, but she had sat there for 15 seconds watching me slowly reverse directly into her

If the woman had thought to beep her horn it would have saved me a scuffed bumper (no damage to hers)

I always keep both front windows down while reversing - because I can hear cars or people approaching. I had them both dropped today as well. Of course the car that got me was the silent one :D

BTW the part of your quote I bolded is v true. Could be anything!
