Full Audi service history and looks like nice example. Will be doing around 25k miles a year.

Will something like warrant direct that covers wear and tear be ok for 3 years ownership?

..or shall I not bother and just get a ford mondeo 155 st?

(major dilemma as to what to get.. Luxury and comfort is a big thing for me evn if it means paying a little extra for diesel running costs)

What you guys reckon? Am I being a muppet? :p

It will be so so slow with such a small engine :( So yes its a bad idea.

I like the A8, i am thinking about one for my GF, but you really need to go for the larger 4.0/4.2 diesel or the 4.2/6.0 petrols in my opinion.

Slow? I'm coming from a really slow Peugeot 207 that does 0-60 in over 12 secs!

7.8 secs is good enough for me :p

Have read that they are generally solid cars but was wondering if there was anything costly to look out for?

We had one in last month, needed about £3k spent on it just to get the suspension fixed and a few other parts. Was a 53plate V8 Diesel mind you, but probably same suspension.

Par for the course on a luxury though, if you take it to a dealer and give them a carte blanche.

From what i can understand they are actually fairly reliable, and being old cars now, there are used parts everywhere. I have already found suspension compressors for <£400 for example.

Or just don't go quite so far up the scale, can get a nice A6 TDI is that's your bag that won't cost the earth to run.

Apart from the air suspension there can't be much else to throw eye watering bills can there? I know they're complex so I suppose diagnosing faults is the problem?

They're expensive.. Even ones with high miles :(

Also looking at LPG conversions but I'm guessing it's not the fuel that's going to kil me but a 3k bill for something like suspension :(

This is what I'm trying to establish.. For 8k you can get some really nice a8 examples :) alo, I prefer the way they look over newer versions (w12 is the One i like?)

Friend of mine has one and bought the long wheel base version as he does chauffeur work. He paid around 8-8.5k I believe. Its gorgeous, so comfy. It has the 3.0TDI and goes well enough, ok it's not going to set the world on fire but when you're doing the sort of work he does...who wants to? :p

Hasn't had any problems with it yet as far as I'm aware, he did spend a long time looking for a minter with full service history etc, seems to have paid off :)

Yeh found one with full Audi service history with around 90k on the clock. 8k

2003 onwards, must have xenons and sat nav as well as full leather :p

I'm hoping I'll be just as lucky but just don't think I can handle a 3k bill. It's my lack of emergency funds that's stopping me from buying a newer car with DSG without warranty.. Heard they cost 5k to replace :(
