Sleeping Dogs

This game (demo) is a bit of system killer. 1920x1200 on the highest details and I get an average of less then 30 FPS on a 3580K @ 4.6, GTX670 stock. Looking at EVGA precision the GPU is maxed out, I wonder if it works any better on AMD video cards?

Seems to favour AMD slightly at the moment but if the game becomes a big hit Nvidia might be able to do something with their drivers.

Yeah, it is AMD optimized...

My settings:

1920x1080/60hz
AA - High
High Res textures - On
Shadows - High
Shadow filtering - Normal
Occlusion - High
Vsync - On
Motion Blur - Normal
World Density - Extreme
FPS limiter - 60fps (I play on a 60hz screen)

Benchmark results: Average - 53.4. Max - 101.5. Min - 33.8.

Obviously not at full max settings, but close enough to not notice much of a difference.
Have a go with similar settings and let us know what happens.
There is a chance that the demo isn't as optimized as the full game (which I gather is on v1.4).

There are a couple of slight judders here and there, but I gather pretty much everyone gets that on this game.

Yeah, your card should murder the game though...

EDIT:

Performance is great -- it did bring my GTX 570 down to 15fps when maxed out, but reducing AA from Extreme to High fixed that and gave me a steady 40fps. Turning off ambient occlusion put me up in the 70 to 100 range. However, at some points when driving at high speed on the freeway, even though the FRAPS framerate counter remained firmly in the high 30s the picture appeared to chug and stutter for a few seconds. Not sure what that was about, but it was annoying.

Don't know how far I've got in this game and I'm not going to spoil it for others by describing what stage I'm at, but I honestly hope there are plenty more hours left in it yet.

Thoroughly enjoying this game. Definitely my personal favourite game of 2012, started off not liking it too much, but it's just got better from then on since I've worked out how to deal with enemies in fights and now it's a lot more enjoyable. I'm using a keyboard and mouse and find it easy enough to control as well.

Is there any point in saving your money up in this game? I've got close to 800,000 at the moment and other than cars, I haven't really seen anything else expensive that can be bought.

I have to say that i'm really enjoying the storyline so far but I figure i'm probably 70% of the way through the game so its going to end soon :(.

Hope the ending doesn't disappoint.

Just gone past 27 hours played on Steam, and I've completed the story, and all the side missions and cases and whatnot. Still need to find all the lock boxes, but not too bothered about those.

What can I say, I grew to really, really like this game. The story is excellent, and the game really captures a sense of a darker Hong Kong. Wei is possibly one of the standout protagonists i've seen in recent years.

If you care about achievements then you use the money to buy all the cars and clothes ingame

It doesn't.

From what Im reading in this thread this is ....a short game? :(

People seem to be blasting right through it. Its not full of stuff to do that takes a long time like GTAIV?

It is not short. There is plenty to do, and even if there is not as much as GTA(possibly, not sure), it is generally of better quality tbh. GATIV......Assassin missions(lol, some assassin- drive somewhere kill 100 people then drive off:p), races, stealing cars, thats about it isn't it?(not played it in ages).

At the moment I am story 80% complete after 18 hours, but I have plenty of side missions to do. I haven't done any of the jobs(stealing cars, extortion) and have loads if drugs busts left as well. also need 4 statues.

They have set up a very easy way to introduce dlc in this game which I hope they use, just add new cases.

Yeah, I looked at some of the car prices earlier on in the game and the highest one I saw was for 600k. I've completed the game now and maxed all of the different skill trees(the last face level gives a 40% discount on everything, which is nice).

The final part of the game was awesome, it's been a while since I played a game with such a good storyline/dialog. I wish I could remember some of the lines well enough to quote them.
