Steam on Win8 Release Preview

Anyone else tried this?

Reinstalled the client last night and thought I'd try the sleeping dogs demo. It all downloaded and then started up the installing. This finished so I tried to start it, nothing happens.
Thought its a demo so a maybe bit dodgy, so I set Dirt3 downloading, same thing.

Not tried any other games but anyone else seen this?

Latest graphics driver: check
Directx: check
Steam running as admin: check
Dirt 3 running: fail.

Any ideas?

Maybe, but not entirely helpful right now! Might try a non steam game and see how that goes.

Search google for d3dcomplier_43.dll and place it in:

\Steam\steamapps\common\SleepingDogs <---- the root of this folder.

The game will then run

Before that, just install the latest directx.

Often refuses to install because of that missing file though

That missing file is a directx file, isnt it.

I think so. DX11 absolutely refused to finish running the installer until I tried that trick someone pointed me to on the Steam forums. Utterly bizarre!

DiRT3 is a GFWL title. The GFWL packaged in the install is an old version that doesn't work on Win8. So as well as the above suggestions try installing the latest GFWL from the MS site. Or if you have MS Flight just install that from Steam (it's free) as it has the latest version.

GFWL has started Dirt3, will see about sleepdogs when I get home.
Deirectx was already done so fingers crossed.
