A really expensive overclocking motherboard and then a multiplier locked (?) quad core processor seems like a strange combination.

A decent Z77 motherboard and a 3770K would’ve been a more obvious choice. Is there a cunning plan for future upgrades that required a S2011 motherboard?

I’d have also gone for a higher end case and a modular PSU, but that’s just personal preference.

there is no point in paying the extra for a sb-e cpu and a monster overclocking board to go with a quad core locked cpu.

either go for the 3930K or save cash and go IB 3770K. Still go for the sabertooth if you really want but there is a better choice of board for a lot less.

Also change the cooler for a top end air cooler or a H100, The intel 1 aint that good.

the 3820 can get 5ghz and above but i would still save abit on the board and get an
asrock extreme6/gb or the asrock extreme7 save a few quid and get a better cooler
these overclock great and are good boards

I would have spent more on the case, switched the SSD and not waste any money on a 2TB Caviar Black. The cooler is a waste too, it's too close to the price of a proper watercooling kit to be worth the money. IIRC the H100 is a little more than the Intel cooler which is just another rebranded Asetek cooler.

Don't see the need in the i7, save yourself the money and get an i5 :)

Unless the money is not an issue.

Are you actually building this yourself, or getting a site to build it for you? Because from the looks of it, it seems you are using a site where you select components and they build it. You could save yourself a nice bit of money if you actually built it yourself, it really isn't as hard as it might seem. If you are only using it for gaming, a 3570k would serve you better for less.

Yes, I have ordered it. I used an online site to do so. I will be using the system as an all arounder really. General tasks working from home, video and sound editing and a bit of gaming. I went with what I thought was the best components I could afford. I am not planning to overclock it or anything, I just wanted to get a decent system that will serve me well. I am a bit concerned with what you guys say about the cooling I chose. Are these not good enough for what I want them? I do not anticipate the pc to be worked so hard with what I want to do, hence the decision to go a bit over the top with the components. I thought the board has its own on board fans, and I know the G force does, and so does the case (one in front, one at the back). Do you reckon I will have a problem with overheating?

No problem with overheating no, if i were you though i would return the £150 motherboard and get something that suits your needs, maybe pick up an aftermarket cooler as well.

Edit: Maybe return the non overclockered version of the i7 as well, how much did you pay for it? You may not want to overclock the cpu now but once you become more familier with the machine i think'll regret not being able to squeeze an extra 25% speed out of the computer. You may think overclocking is expert stuff but it really is an absolute doddle nowadays...

for years and years and years I had a friend building my pc systems. He was an avid overclocker, and always built my AMD based systems using optimal overclocking settings. My current PC was built 7 years back (I know...) using a humangous thermalight case, a LAN party board and an overclocked dual core (I cannot remember which one it is, it was one of the best AMD made then, before they went to drop their standards). Of course it was oil cooled

But I lost contact with him a few years back and I now needed to build something that will last me a while again. I thought I buy the best components I thought there were available to me (within a budget), this is why I bought the most powerful i7 quad core Intel makes. I was tempted to fork out for a six core, but I thought better not! :p

The reason I went for this particular board is that it is highly rated and I did want to go for an overkill on the board and the cpu, simply because I had a board fail in the past and it was a mess for me to sort it out.

I did not have any particular budgetary restrains, as I said I wanted something good that I hope is going to last me a while. I am sure that if I had asked here before you guys would have managed to get me a better system with less money, but I am still learning, so I guess I made a few errors of judgment. I just hope that what I built is going to do what I want it to do, without any problems. The whole built cost me £1500, plus £100 for the mouse and keyboard which I bought from somewhere else. My system is due to be delivered tomorrow, so I am getting excited.

If money isnt a problem then go for it, you could save yourself £100 though by returning the 3820 and sabertooth under dsr.

....and purchasing this

Thanks Trusty. I think I will stick with what I have ordered, but will keep an eye on the cooler for the future. It should be relatively straight forward to swap mine for this, I take it?

Atholon X2 on Socket 939? :p

AMD never dropped their standards, they simply got ****** when they introduced their new Bulldozer architecture. Same with Intel after they introduced the Pentium 4 back in the day.
