Paid last day of the month!

Tell these people that if they have direct debits set up to go out of their account so close to their pay day that they are "worried" when they get payed less than half a day late that they are the ones doing something wrong.

This, yes i'm one of 'those' people. Its really not a good idea to have an empty current account at the end of each month, people will always buy **** they don't need so theres always savings that can be made one way or another.

I do agree with you, but sometimes there's no choice. I can't change the direct debit date for my council tax. I've asked before and they say it has to be the 1st of the month. There are other ways to pay so there's probably ways around this, but I'm sure there are other examples.

I just have all of my other DD's coming out on the 6th/7th to allow for any mistakes.

Perhaps the people worried are more concerned that the company are struggling to pay the wages so the company is in trouble and therefore their future might not be too rosy.

Just to let you know not everyone has enough cash to tide them over when they don't get paid. I used to get this attitude from a guy at my work when I didn't get paid one week, 'just wait til next week and they'll pay you double he said' but that doesn't get you food or pay the rent in the meantime.

Slight difference between a week and 12 hours...

Kai: Could your firm be in trouble, cash flow problems.

Really? When it's a delay of less than 24 hours? Unlikely. While it may be a sign they need to review the pay process, if they were having cash flow problems it would be more like a few days/weeks delay!

Most direct debits come out on the first of the month. Often this can be changed, but not always (council tax, rent, energy bills etc). If, like me, you're paid a couple of days before the end of the month, then there is no problem. If you're paid on the last day of the month, then delays in payment can be problematic.

That's nothing more than a gross generalisation...

Not everyone "buys **** they don't need", and to suggest so shows a complete lack of understanding. Some people struggle to make ends meet with what they earn, and do everything they can do economise week-in week-out. If you've never been in that position then I am happy for you. Unfortunately, I have. I can tell you that it's not a pleasant position to be in.

This lol, they are holding 8% of your wages hostage every month to pay for #13 :p

Exactly.

Plus it becomes a pain managing your DD and disposable income as each month the payday creeps a number of days backwards.

It's managable but sitll a pain.

I didn't mean to imply that everyone does that. I should have put 'most' in there, I could've guessed someone would pick it up.

A lot of the people i've known that really care that wages get paid on day x will always get flustered when its not there at that time because of poor money management, if thats not the same for you, fair enough, but my experience suggests people in that situation aren't the majority.

I get paid four weekly :D

Same and it's an evil system
Do they not understand direct debits are monthly and it's stupidly hard to know exactly what you have in your bank account. Stupid pay date changes very single month, terrible system. Or allow me to pick direct debits as four weekly as well.

Fair enough...

I'm reasonably comfortable now (thankfully), but I did have a year or so where I "struggled to make ends meet", so I have a sympathy for people in a similar situation. It's difficult enough without the added stress of worrying whether your wages are going to go in, and trying to think of contingencies for if they don't.

We get paid on the last day of the month, unless the last day is a weekend day, in which case we get it on the Friday. Just got handed my wage slip by my boss about 5 minutes ago in fact.

That's what I was thinking.

I get paid on the last working day of the month. All my direct debits are setup for teh 5-6th of the "new" month just in case. That said I have never EVER had a problem with pay days. Always in my bank account by the time I get to check it in the morning.

You can change your council tax, rent and utility bills DD dates easily.
