I'm going to a friend's wedding (which isn't until early Nov) and he has respectfully asked that any gifts be cash.

I realise this is rather like defining the general length of a string, but roughly what would you say is a reasonable, non-stingy (but not OTT) sum?

If any of you have given cash wedding gifts in the past, how much did you give?

Cheers!

£20 to £50 depending on how much I like them and if they ask for cash directly.

A bit more if they specify something they really want or aren't unpleasant about it.

Depends how close the friend is, best friend i'd be giving him loads. A friend who is just within a group of people i know i'd probably opt for £50-£70 with a small gift alongside.

Money is a very sensible thing these days, a lot of couples have plenty of usual wedding gifts prior to getting married so it makes sense to pool a lot of cash together.

£100 is the bench mark (if you can afford it) 30-50 is the older friend scale, less than 30 is a little tight (unless you really cant afford it).

If its a very close friend maybe cash and something small and silly if you have any good ideas.

£100 is more than I was expecting, £50 sounds better. It's a pretty close friend but I wouldn't say the closest.

If you have £200 per week pocket money to blow on anything you like and debt free etc. £50 is a bit cheeky.

On the other hand, if you don't have lots of disposable cash. £50 is more than generous. Base it on what you can afford. No one is going to think worse of you if you don't give a massive amount when you can't afford to.

As someone that just had a wedding most guests gave around £50 good friends and close relatives gave £100-200

Not more than £50 sounds about right for general friends. For best friends cannot make a measure easily, will depend on how much u got?

I should add that me and some other mates are going on his stag do later this month, and we've jointly paid for him on that (which includes gorge walking, whisky tasting as well as the usual inevitable debauchery) so he's not getting a bad deal :p
