Mercedes E270 Cdi

I have no experience of this particular generation car but is it a case of not meeting previous MB expectations or are they literally that bad? Like a complex large Renault for example which breeds faults?

'Seems' like a lot of car for the money but there's clearly a reason for it. Wouldn't a BMW 530D be more appropriate considering general consensus on these Mercs?

I hope you don't mean the E39, they need to be looked after :(

All cars of this age and size need to be looked after but if cheap-o-lux is the OP's preferred choice of motor then it's probably a safer bet than these Merc's. But, at this end of the market, these cars are for those who really do know what they're doing and perhaps asking questions like this on the forum is a sure-fire sign of impending pain and hardship :)

I dont think kerosene is any less available here, i have a 2500L tank of it in my garden for example :p I have been reading a little about running cars on it recently, i'd like dannyw to try it for me

We just generally call it paraffin over here, hence the smiley ;)

Do you never learn? I mean really, surely after you were lucky enough to get a refund on that 530d you learnt that cheap prestige diesel is bad news? :p

A refund? Blimey, is there a thread detailing this epic purchase?

Theres nothing epic about it?

I bought a 530d msport from a reputable garage, had done 130k, 2 owners, fbmwsh, the auto box was jerky and very slow off the mark, in a morning when it was cold it was smokey and felt like it had a misfire, I did a leak off test 2 injectors were shot, came with a 3 months warrenty but i just took it back and swapped it for a volvo with a peugeot engine + cash back

the reason i looked at mercs is i thought they had better engines and better auto boxes then bmws?

Most of us don't consider a Ross Kemp look a likes in what looks more like soviet russia a 'reputable garage'. :p

My dad's had a 2005 320 CDI purchased with 15,000 miles. Had the turbo replaced under warranty after 6 months.

Now after 100k, the only thing that has gone wrong is the sat nav ariel, which he replaced himself for 15 quid.
