ok i have heard of a few sources that the new iphone will have a new smaller sized charging/transfer port.

now i hope this is a lie, as it will make all the iphone docks obsolete without the need of another adapter. and one of the things i loved about apple is that they keep the devices the same, so compatibility is never an issue.

if they make a new charging port, i will loose faith in apple.

A few points :

1. ENOUGH WITH THE CAPS.
2. It's spelt rumour.
3. Apple don't really care what you think. They will quite happily kill off legacy ports far earlier than any other tech company would.
4. All 30pin dock ports are not all the same. I can plug my iPhone into my clock radio thing and it gives me a nasty error becuase it was designed for the HDD iPods with Firewire.

I have a rumor, companies don't care what you think, they care what you'll do with your wallet

that's not a rumor it's a fact

and both rumor and rumour are correct, my Google chrome seems to think that rumor is the best way for me to spell it. However this is not a grammar discussion.

Reading more into it, i do believe that apple are doing this to increase battery size.

my mother owns an iPhone and iPad and loves the ability to charge both devices without have sockets taken up. i guess she is going to be ****ed off.

and finally, the reason for this topic is to find out if you guys think this will actually happen.

Rumor is the American spelling. I'm not an American therefore I'll spell it properly with a "u" in there.

Go read macrumors.com. They did this to death a couple of weeks ago. I don't really see the benefit in repeating the discussion here.

It's been standard for what 11 years? Sometimes you have to break comparability. It's hardly if they change it every year. Tech changes, size of devices changes.

No Apple keep things different so you can't use that micro USB cable that EVERY other device uses.

But the dock connector is past it's time, the replacement is an improvement and will save a lot of space on devices. Of course there'll be adaptors.

How is it an improvement? Its still too big compared to a micro USB connector. As such its only purpose is to be different.

They give you one with each device anyway....

It would be the end of the world if they held your cat hostage every time you purchased a new device and didn't give you the cable till you paid £29.99 extra for it.

If change didn't happen we would all still use parallel ports and massive floppy drives because they were about good enough.

Although the rumour is looking to be true Apple hasn't confirmed anything therefore its still rumour.

I don't think you're mother has to worry about more sockets being taken up seeing as all she would have to do is swap a cable and still use the same charger.

Usb's capable of carrying just about anything (apples connector has video/audio/data ect, usb just has data and as long as the signal is encoded/decoded then anything goes) but, like it says in n111ck's link, if they went with a usb pin-compatible design, they would practically obsolete every iphone/ipod accessory out there over night - angry customers and millions of tonnes of obsolete electronic waste....not ideal:p

I'd like to see the new connector be like mag safe.

It's about time the connector was shrunk down, it takes up the whole side of a Nano!

Im all for the new port, much better than the old one and better than micro usb, which breaks easily and can only put in one way.
