So after much deliberation i (think I) have settled on a pair of:

Asus GTX 670 CU2 2GB
or
EVGA GTX 670 SC 4GB

But am struggling to make the final decision (I've almost pulled the trigger on each twice tonight :P)

I have 3x24" monitors (6000x1200) but rarely game at anything over 1920x1200 as I just don't really like it (although, of course I do have the option to) I play mainly FPS with some racing games and like the eye candy pumped up

The way I see it at the moment is (and I did this to try and help me make a decision):

Asus ***
Pros:
Cheaper of the two
Runs quiet
Runs cool
Like the looks - comes with a backplate

Cons:
2gb VRAM may become an issue (future proof and resale value)
Cooling system dumps the air into the case
Asus warranty isn't supposed to be the best

EVGA ***

Pros:
Backplate is included
Vents air out of the case
EVGA warranty (and warranty transfer is excellent)
4gb should give more future profing and options on multi screen gaming

Cons:
Slightly more expensive (but negligible)
Looks ain't great (IMO)
Unknown running temps
Unknown running volume (fan noise)

So, when put like that, it probably comes down to how cool / quiet the EVGA runs :s

Does anyone have one (or two) or ideally have experience of both to compare on these two factors?

Cheers

** no competitor pricing - thanks

Depends.. you're right about multi-screen gaming for 4GB VRAM, but not for future proofing. I'd honestly go for the 2GB VRAM version.

You don't even need more than 2GB of VRAM for multi-monitor unless you are going Tri-SLI (3 GPU's) so get 2GB.

I would get the Gigabyte Windforce 3x myself but just preference really.

The theory behind the VRAM if you're interested is that basically unless you go Tri-SLI you don't have enough GPU horsepower to utilise the extra VRAM.

Whyscotty and I have tested extensively between us and this is in line with what others on other forums have seen as well.

Oh Skyrim can use more than 2GB if you run loads of the unoptimised mods which would be a consideration if you play that a lot.

@ Felton1592 - sorry, but by future proofing i meant if I do go back to multi screen gaming as well as the resale value that (not necessarily here but on a popular auction sure) the 4gb over a 2gb would have a higher residual value

@ Rusty0611 - very interesting, thank you. What about with AA and other eye candy - dies this GPU limit still apply?

@ Gregdter - I did look at the gigabyte but don't like the blue pcb :P

For a single screen 2GB is more than fine and yes you will be GPU limited still. The future is hard to tell but to give you some context it is only really with the latest round of top end games that 1GB cards have become VRAM limited.

I don't think we'll hit that point with 2GB cards soon and when we do the GPU's will be long redundant. That's how I see it anyway...

I have a 4gb EVGA Sc with backplate and can honestly say its very good card, runs perfect at 1200mhz and ive had it upto 1300 no probs though it does run abit warm!

Noise is ok when idle but under load you might hear a slight whine and after 2 hours of BF3 gaming was sitting between 60-65 degrees.

I would certainly say get the EVGA.

To answer your question about the Evga SC 4GB- noisy and run hot(I had 4)

Asus cards are very good but the Windforce X3 are better value and seem to be the better clockers.

As for 2 x 4GB cards as Rusty said you won't benefit from the extra Vram unless going 3/4 way Sli.

If your not watercooling your cards have you had a look at these

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-195-EA

Was the noise and heat with 1,2,3 and 4 cards mate ?

Im not watercooling my GPUs - been there and done that and really (for me) don't see the benefit of the additional cost and messing about when I (regularly) change them

Its more idle im worried about, for when "just" working on my PC, than under load - when id probably have my headset on anyway :D

Im seeing lots of mixed views / opinions on the nose and heat of these cards tbh

The ASUS is awesome! Looks the quality product and runs great.

They do look great and there is no doubting their performance but I think I am just about set on the 4GB SC. It is just the mixed reviews on the fan noise, however where I have seen them has a 7 day "no questions asked" returns policy so if they are unbearable I could always return them and get the Asus :D

Pulled the trigger on a pair of the EVGA 4GB Superclocked - should be (hopefully) here for the weekend :)

Cheers all - ill report back once I've had chance to give them a test :D

Ive just benched the 580s in:

3D Mark 11
Heaven 3.0
Vantage
Metro 2033
Dirt Showdown

At various detail levels at 1920*1200 and 6000*1200 - does anyone have any suggestions or requests ?

If I have the bench and the time ill test the 580s and then do a comparison of all of them when the 670s arrive :D

Using the extreme preset in 3dmark11 would be interesting.

CPU 1 4191.71
CPU 2 258.21
CPU Score 25759

Will have to wait for the 670 results :D
