Newbie - jailbreak an iPhone so I can tether?

My internet is being cut off in 24 hours and i'm going to have a period of a few weeks before I can get new broadband.

I have unlimited internet with my iPhone (O2 / Giffgaff) and i'd like to use this for general browsing during this period.

I've never Jailbroken an iPhone before so no ideas of what it entails or the results. I couldn't really find the basics upon searching.

So. If I Jailbreak my iPhone 4 with Hot Spoty / tethering show up in the menu and allow me to turn the phone into a hot spot?

I've got this option on my iphone and it isn't jailbroken (if that's a word)

I think it depends on your provider.

I was with one provider that had it enabled. My latest one does not have it enabled.

It's not that it's not capable, it's just locked down.

MyWi 5 I think is the latest jailbreak for tethering, think it costs like £5 or something like that.

I have hotspot as an option on mine too, and its not jailbroken.

Provider is 3 tho, not o2

I'm giffgaff PAYG via O2 which is basically as poverty spec as it goes but it does have unlimited data.

I suggest you read the terms and conditions

5.13. In addition to our standard terms and conditions, all usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
a) In or connected to any other device including modems, dongles or any other way to connect to a PC (unless you are on a gigabag plan)

Tethering is not allowed on goodybags.

Also for those that have said that they have the personal hotspot on o2 or other networks, giffgaff isn't recognised by apple as an official provider so the option isn't available.

It may have "unlimited" data but this doesn't include tethering as this isn't permitted by your contract with Giffgaff. If you choose to jailbreak your phone to permit tethering to another device then you'll have broken the terms of your contract and won't be entitled to anything at all, let alone "unlimited" data. :rolleyes:

How long will i get banged up for? I got two years for VHS recording a long time ago, and two years suspended for transferring my Compact Discs to MP3 format.

Laugh all you like, and I'm sure you'd not get caught anyway, but it was you that insisted on reiterating how you had "unlimited data" when, in actual fact, this is utterly irrelevant. What your contract permits doesn't really matter when you're going to break the terms of it anyway, does it?
