Hello Everyone.

Thanks in advance for looking at my post and for suggestion.

Last year around June-July I assembled my first ever gaming PC which I was hoping to last good few years. Here is the list of component I'm using right now in my PC.

Power Supply : Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 ( I got this last week as my old one stop working was some OCZ Mod Pro Supply 700 Watt)

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV Formula

Graphic Card: GTX 560 Ti Direct CU II ( I discovered later that this suits better on intel setup)

RAM: Vengeance DDR3 8GB CMZ8GX3MZA1600C

Processor: AMD-Phenom II Black Edition X 6 1090T 3.2Ghz

Wireless PCI Card: TL-WN951N

Hard Drive: Caviar Blue 7200 RPM 16MB Sata WD5000AAKX

CPU Cooler: Arctoc Freezer 7 Pro Rev2

Case: HAF 922

It was all fine until I saw suggested computer set up of the month on MMO and they recommend using Intel i7 for best performance . So my question is ... Is it really worth to upgrade my gaming RIG?

Has the technology improved so much in 1 year time that can bring some really advantage to my gaming?

WOW is the only game I play nothing else.

I was planning to upgrade following parts.

Motherboard: Asus Z77 Sabertooth Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3

CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011

GPU: Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Water Cooler: Corsair H100. Or Intel one

and buy another sets of Vengeance DDR3 8GB CMZ8GX3MZA1600C so I will have total 16GB Ram.

Now the other option was to keep the existing setup and just upgrade GPU to ... But Wow is more CPU intensive game then GPU as I read, so wondering if its really gonna make any difference..

Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ 3072MB GDDR5 PIC-Express Graphics Card

At the end of the day I just want the best setup to play games and I would consider to upgrade any component if that's really gonna make huge difference.

Please feel free to suggest any other better Rig setup :D

I wouldnt bother upgrading the CPU and board, wait for Haswell to be released next year.

Is your current CPU overclocked? being a Black edition it has an unlocked multiplier so its eay to increase this within the BIOS.

One thing about your suggested parts, the CPU and motherboard are not compatible.

• Sandybridge/Ivybridge (i5 2500K, i5 3570K, i7 3770K etc) for Z77/Z68

• Sandybridge-E for X79 boards.

first of all, i don't think stulid noticed this... your suggested spec

you have chosen the i7-3820 which is a lga2011 chip and a lga1155 board... this wouldn't work, they are two different chipsets!

the X6 isn't a bad cpu, its better than the current AMD bulldozer 4/6 core chips by a bit... i would wait until next year as stulid has stated and see what is brought out then.

at the moment, overclock your cpu to around 3.8ghz which will give you a nice boost... maybe get the arctic a30 cooler which is better than your current cooler...

You really don't need an i7 for WoW.

If you were to go for an Intel CPU, the i5 3570k would be more than enough.

As for the motherboard, you can save over £100 and get the £80~ Z77 chipset boards.

Grab an SSD too, that'll make a massive difference to your system. I'd go for 120GB at the minimum.

Out of interest what settings are you running WoW at? (Resolution, frames per second would also help)

I think he did, you did`nt notice that he noticed. :D
