Recently I replaced my unlocked 6950's 1GB CFX configuration with the XFX 7970 Black Edition. I regret it because this card has a revised custom PCB (version 3.1 with Dual DVI Ports). I cannot overclock the card beyond it's factory settings (1000 - 1425 MHz). All the time the driver crashes. With reference AMD PCB this card without voltage tweak reaches easily the 1200 - 1700 MHz for core and for memory. So is there a way to adjust the voltage or this PCB has no voltage regulators? It has much better performance than my previous GPU setup, but I wanted this card to be overclocked at 1100 - 1700 MHz.

Looking online this seems true

Well, let that be a note to anyone reading this, all XFX cards are now off the recommended list.

Sorry for you Black Flag :(

I wanted to buy 7970 Lightning but the availability (up to 15 working days) was awful and I selected the XFX! It runs everything on maximum settings, so I will handle it!

P.S. Could you send me all the voltages (CPU, CPU-NB, HT, NB and etc) which helped you and the cpu to reach the 4,2 GHz limit? I have 1090t with Crosshair V and Corsair H100 for cooling.

CPU: Stock 200Mhz x21 @ 1.325v.
CPU-NB: 2800Mhz @ 1.23125v
HT-Link: 2000Mhz, (stock)
NB: stock
LLC: Ultra high, CPU-NB LLC: High, CPU Current Compatibility: 120%, CPU-NB Current Compatibility: 120%

every same make / model CPU is different, you may find that you need more Core Volts than me as i have an unusually efficient Thuban.

If you run into problems let me know, i would be glad to help.

The most important thing to remember is never go over 54c on the cores and 67c on the CPU while stress testing. use HWMonitor to monitor your temps and Prime-95 to stress test.

Found a stable point for the XFX! Core at 1050 MHz and memory at 1500 MHz, like 7970 GHz edition! Just increase power tune to 5%! It's stable!
