Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

It was kinda hard to explain - if you try with rivatuner first you will know if you see it - it was kinda like the whole screen moving up 1cm and back down again, some people are affected by it, others not, its the actual overclocking program that seem to do it rather than actually overclocking.

Max temp I get is about 75C.

Downloaded Rivatuner but didnt seem to have an option to overclock

Surely that's not bad for a 3D system with the 680 and 3720? I'd then throw in my Sammy SSD and upgrade the ram at a later date. If anyone's interested just throw in N00W7M04 in search box and you can upgrade some components, like the Gfx and screen to 3D which I did. Then add following codes for further 10% off and free delivery: 'GX5VN34375QM1K' and '82H482T1GPCBMS'.

3D's what I really want and it looks like there's very few on the outlet so since I've never even had an R4 in my basket, my chances of nabbing a 3D one look even more unlikely :D Anyway, hope it helps someone.

It's up to you of course if you want to pay it.

They are rare coming up on the outlet so chances are you might never get the perfect one you want with the same spec.

For me 3D holds no weight!

hopefully todays the day i capture one with a 7970 and a blu-ray player
fingers crossed
gonna try chrome as the only times ive gotten one in basket with internet explorer the captcha thing refused to show me a code:(

wish me luck guys and any help would be appreciated

I think im gonna get rid of mine, im moving house next week so have no need for a laptop anymore, just waiting on dell coming back out to fix the dvd drive that isnt showing up (had a new motherboard fitted a few weeks ago as the cmos battery holder was broke), Im guessing that the guy forgot to attach the cable back in or something when he did that.

Few quick questions

1. Is there a big performance difference between my CPU - Intel Core i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) and the - Intel core i7 3820QM (8MB Cache, up to 3.7GHZ w/turbo boost)

2. I fail to understand how this Turbo boost technology works and therefor im slightly ignorant to if it works or not :p. I reformatted my laptop from scratch and did not reinstall any software knowingly that relates to this, however im guessing its deeper than that and therefore it works in the background without any needed software etc? Can anyone confirm?.

3. I purchased this laptop to play the new Planetside 2 which is currently in BETA, i seem to get pretty good performance however people talk about my CPU being the bottleneck rather than the GPU, is this true or absolute crap?. I was under the impression that this CPU was pretty damn good !!

4. Future Upgradability - Lets say in a 6 months - a years time i decide to upgrade the CPU, is it possible and if so which is the fastest CPU that this particular laptop can take?. When speccing he unit on the dell website the best option is the i7 3820QM however can you go beyond this?.

Cheers

There is minimal difference between the 3610 and 3820, maybe 3 or 4fps of a difference in games. You would get more performance flashing the gpu.

If you are just gaming, dont worry about it, the 3720/3820/3920xm are great if you want to do something more, and of course it wouldnt hurt to have one, but the performance boost you will get is not a huge amount, you would be better spent in a year putting in the 8970 or whatever ATi release.

I've just checked my order status online and it has changed to shipped :)

Does anyone know how long roughly delivery will take from now as the tracking and trace from Walsh Western is blank?

Cheers.

Do you think this laptop will take the next gen cards?

Sam

No reason why not Sam, you can put a 7970 in a M17x3 or M17x2 :) By the same token, I think next years ones will be on the sandybridge chipset too, so when your putting your GPU in, price of 3820's or 39xx will have dropped to a reasonable level too to give a nice boost.

Usually about 5 days bud.
