Protien Shakes - When to start taking them

Also I've found that if you eat whey powder directly, it's far better. This is because it's not diluted, so the greater concentration of protein acts as a greater stimulus to your liver to break it down into amino acids and make you hench.

AS FreeFaller pointed out, almost everybody who takes protein shakes does not need them.

The only people who show defined benefits from protein supplementation over an appropriate diet are those who are over 50 and those who have suffered injury/trauma and are in recovery.

Protein shakes are the male equivalent of anti-ageing cream: all marketing BS and veeeeeeeeery little science to support the claimed effects.

Sorry but that is just as much ******** as the posts above.
Of course you can get most of you protein intake from regular food but avoiding a cheap, healthy, convenient and quality protein source like powder whey and comparing it to anti-ageing cream is just ridiculous. Especially so if you have a mostly-vegan diet (in which nuts aside nothing will ever provide you with good protein that has a reasonable amino acid profile)

Please excuse my off-topic.

Lmao i missed that. What a bull **** comparison.

Comparison was a little extreme, sure, but there is still very little evidence to show that protein (and specifically protein) supplementation (most studies use whey as a test) does not add muscle mass or strength over an appropriate and balanced diet.

Check my wording against my above post? Yep - APPROPRIATE is in there. People with crap diets will certainly benefit, but that's introducing a different variable. One I wasn't commenting on.

Next time, please don't bite my head off for something I didn't say. :)

But no one claimed it would? Just that some times its not convenient to take chicken and potato to the gym for your post work out meal, so people take a recovery shake instead.

I agree entirely and would never argue that point.

Now let's go and ask FreeFaller nicely if he has any more OAKG to snort, coz that sounds like the gain bomb.

:D

Gosh some people are SO defensive for supps. I don't think anyone is denying that a shake is easier and can be more convenient to take at the gym. But the OP wasn't asking that. He was asking if he needed it. He clearly doesn't. LEARN TO READ PEOPLE!! :p

In other news, Steedie and I are going to set up our own protein shake bar in Magaluf. We're gonna call it The Brotein Shack.
