Most File sharers are monitored

Perfect place to say that PeerGuardian won't help you. Nothing but a very false sense of security and blocking legit IP's.

Use private trackers if you're worried, real ones, not those your mother is on. Or usenet.

Is usenet any better though? How do we know the same thing isn't happening?

Doesn't SSL stop usenet traffic being monitored?

Also, the offence is normally uploading content rather than downloading (which your doing all the time with torrents)

I could be wrong :o

Well with usenet its between you and your usenet provider what you download, with bittorrent its between you and anybody else in the swarm which can be up to tens of thousands of people.

But....just about everything you do online can be "seen " :D right ?
...

Quote " The study found that the IP addresses of peer-to-peer network users were being recorded on a “massive” scale by “copyright enforcement organisations, security companies, and even government research labs.” Fortunately for you pirates out there, the study also found that the tracking techniques used by these companies were often unreliable, which likely reduces their usefulness in lawsuits or other court proceedings. " :D

sorry about the double post ...dunno what happened .

Sounds like scaremongering to me although that's not to say they aren't monitoring IP's, it's just that anyone with an ounce of internet knowledge would know that their IP is visible when connecting to other clients.

Anyone with uTorrent installed could make a list of IP's sharing stuff just by seeing who you connect to.
