Cheapest possible PCI (oe PCIe x1) Graphics card

Hi all,

I am after a PCI (or PCIe x1) graphics card for my ESXi server as I have used all the x16 slots for NICs/RAID Controllers.

So yeah cheapest possible please

Are not all PCIe cards x1 compatible? ie they fit into a x1 slot even if x16 card. Reduced bandwidth OK but a cheap silent HD5450 or similar.

yeah i've heard that, but the PCIe x1 slots in my mobo are not open at the back so they would block a x16 card fitting in. And I'd rather not have to mash the back of one of the slots

Matrox still do some single PCIe cards (short ones as well which might suit you better)

do you know if they would work with vmware esxi?

they will all run as a generic VGA adaptor so yes they should do
