He's an indoor cat, so he won't be leaving gifts in your garden :p

What if I’m out?

What if someone breaks in and disables the burglar alarm (which can happen).

What if they break in and kill you in your sleep?

I’m sure house insurance will be adequate then? <facepalm>

Of course I’m over exaggerating here but plenty of businesses use dogs to guard premises, i don't remember any being guarded by a frikkin tabby cat

it’s not of concern to me as i live in a nice little village but if i lived in a ****hole like i have in the past, a dog is a decent deterrent and protection from burglars, unlike burglar alarms.

i shall tell the people who have been killed or assaulted by burglars etc that they were too stupid to own a house then shall i?

A dog is there, i didn’t buy it for protection. i was just saying its more use than a bloody cat. my wife certainly feels more safe with a dog in the house, especially having a 1 year old there too.

 back at you for that retarded post.

BTW - its you're. don’t call me stupid when you have the linguistic skills of an 8 year old. i also look forward to a burger alarm... does it come with fries... hasn’t school started back today? is it your first day of big school?

So very sorry if my grammar and spelling isn't up to standard - typing these on my phone and don't have a massive amount of screen to check for errors...but hey you understood me.

I would be worried with a dog around me that would protect me against robbers (see what I did there ;) ) and still be okay with a one yr old in the house. Guard dog standard animal and a baby...doesnt sound so safe to me, but if it works for you go for it

Also if someone is going to decided to brake in your particular house and kill you and all your family in your sleep, I think they would have off'd the dog before they came upstairs to do the same to you *face palm right back at you sir*

You like dogs and don't like cats - we get it

i live in rural lincolnshire... cant get much more countryside than here :)

sure, terriers go after anything small but most dogs arent that bothered about killing, they just dont want other animals in their garden (as they see it)

a lot of cats just bring live mice in... fair plays yours do not, but many do, which is what i was replying to. my mother in law is always trying to get mice or birds out her mouse because the moggy brought them in.

wow, bigger animals do more harm shocker... maybe call the news on that amazing piece of journalism you have there? sure, there are bad dog owners and with all the chavs needing a staffi bodyguard im sure it will rise.

down at 'my level' i am also aware of the amazing usefulness of dogs in general... remind me of when a cat was used to sniff for bombs? or lead the blind? or hear for the deaf? or detect cancer in an owner? or work on a farm rounding up sheep? i could go on but im bored....
Seems odd to me you have an aversion to animals doing what they naturally do in the wild, if you're going to domesticate an animal for your own ends at least have the decency to let it maintain some of what it would have been.

I've walked big dogs who are well trained but will try pull you over if they spot something, a cat, a piece of foil, a pile of ****.

My cats bring half dead things in sometimes, you just put it out of it's misery and bin it. Thats not cold it's the food chain, if you have a problem with the food chain stop eating meat or you're just a giant hypocrite.

Also, wow smaller animals are less useful shocker, cats could be trained to do a lot, but they aren't of a size which would make them useful to us.

I think i may have this, going to book an appointment tommorrow.

Ive got a swelling under my left chest, on the upper part of my stomoch. Has been casuing me issues for the last few weeks. When i breath in deeply causes discomfort and when i lay on that side also is inconfortable. The cat does play fight with my arm on occasions and from reading up online a swollen spleen is one of the symtoms.

Could be something else, bit worried!

my dog sleeps downstairs and has superb hearing. she would bark like hell at any noise from outside so i would be awake.

she is soft as hell with my nipper, heaven help any stranger that tried to hurt him though. she is only the size of say a staffie (although not a staffie - she is a mongrel of unknown origins - a rescue dog).

anyway, im offering a cat related olive branch now... lets call a truce on the cat vs dog thing....

fair enough but if a cat kills an animal not for food as many do, its nothing to do with the food chain is it? maybe thats why i dont like them as much as dogs, its that weird, almost cruel aspect cats seem to have in terms of killing for fun, albeit most likely comes from training to hunt.

when an animal becomes domesticated surely the point is they lose some of their animal instincts? else big dogs would just eat their owners :)

could be a few things (hernia, chest infection etc) but i would check it out.

kwerk... hash man... maybe its a hairball? :)

Always find it odd when people 'hate' cats or any animal for that matter

+1

I love cats but I don't like dogs at all. I certainly wouldn't wish any harm on a dog though and I'd do my utmost to protect one from harm - or any animal for that matter.
