another victim of the big executive car depreciation?

don't have exact figures but roughly:
Y1 = 20-30%
Y2 = 30-40%
Y3 = 40-50%
Y4 = 50-60%

... which seems in keeping with the new M5 lol
you'd never see that with a sports coupe like the 911

the new one may fair a bit better, the E60 M5 is not a popular car on the used market

Sounds good to me, I'll be able to afford one ;)

I think you'll find the affordability (purchase price) and the affordability (running costs) have an inverse relationship. So, in theory the costs should stay the same.

Although this theory is ****ed because loads of car buyers are totally irrational. I just can't work out who the stupid people are, the people who think they can run M5s on a shoe string because they cost £15k or the people that spend £8k on a 5 year old Polo Bluemotion because one day it might do 70MPG (although they only do 2,000 miles a year).

I think it's called budgeting and a suprising amount of people simply don't do it.
And of those that do, a high percentage don't apply it to buying cars very well. although those that do budget won't fall into the category of people buying 15k M5s most of the time.

i wonder how the new sale figures of the e34 e39 v10 and v8tt ones compare and whether the number on the market has anything to do with the prices falling like that?

I was in BMW the other week chatting about the new M5, they are selling in very small chunks (if Mr Sales person was to be taken at face value, never a great source) even compared to previous M5's. I think we live in a changing world and M5's are somewhat pointless. Epic for sure, but that money many better options in my humble opinion.

Since we're talking about depreciation, there was a guy on pistonheads that recently bought a £56k Audi A6 and when he went to the dealer soon after (he wanted two cars because his wife didn't like it) they were offering him £37/38k.:eek:

Indeed, the 'war on speed' rings true from Clarkson not just on the calming measures but now cars like the M5 have performance you can't exploit. I know people will deny that but they are a minority and don't usually have an M5 :p

An expensive lesson in researching used vs new prices & taking partners to view prospective new cars prior to purchase I suppose! Ouch!
