So adverts can lie now?

A good example of a mere puff is 'Daz makes whites whiter than white!!!' - it's just marketing nonsense with no legal implications.

Actually this is a true claim, at least to an extent. Historically the Daz brand has contained a lot of optical brightners which absorb light in the UV region of the spectrum and re-emit it in the blue part. This extra blue light gives fabrics the perception of being whiter than equivalent fabrics without the brightners.

Then why not just say that on the advert?

It's all about product positioning.
And using small print to cover for liability.

"Want to know if you'll pass an exam?"
Aimed toward morons, I wouldn't feel bad, why shouldn't we take their money, how else are they going to learn not to be so naive?

Whiter than white" Just doesn't make any sense.

Both incorrect! They put UV absorbing agents in the powder which emit the UV light in the blue region of the spectrum and creates a "glow" effect making things appear "whiter than white".

Magnum Infinity .....GRRRRRR

The advert shows the women eating the ice cream and somehow it magically rebuilds itself..... Those lying gits mine just melted and fell to bits

What they say - "Wrinkle reducing cream"
What they mean - "Poly filla"

What they say - "Gives a radiant glow"
What they mean - "Turns you orange"

I could go on.

These sort of adverts don't really bother me. They are so stupid that you hope no one believes them. The one at the moment that really grinds my gears to the point of being unable to watch it is the "keyless ignition and entry to your car".

Keys disappear at will. (shows people in various completely unrelated situations looking for keys)
- no they don't, they are exactly where you put them.

Never worry about losing your car key again because you just need to know it's in your bag.
- well thats marvellous. So the one place that I can search in 5 seconds is the only place that I can have "lost" my keys and still be able to use my car. Genius, it only works when you haven't lost your keys at all. If you had, they would be somewhere nowhere near your bag or coat and completely useless.

I imagined that being read in Danny Baker's voice.
