Hi guys,

I opened the case of my PC (see sig rig) last night for the first time since building it at the very beginning of June and there was more dust in there than I expected. I've cleaned the dust out now, but I was surprised given the fact that the 600T has dust filters. I guess it has been just over 3 months.

Any tips on preventing this and also cleaning?

Many thanks.

Yes, clean your house more :D

I'm afraid dust is just one of those things, especially if you have loads of fans sucking in air! My BFG 900 case has filters too but in about the same amount of time you are talking about the bottom of my case is pretty bad. Luckily I am upgrading this weekend so I will clean it out again.

One issue with the BFG is the side panel vents are not filtered. Is it the same on the T600? I'm guessing thats where most of my dust comes from anyway.

Cheers

positive pressure

Wow! this is turning into a thread on aerodynamics...is Bernoulli's principle going to come up next ;)

I just have the 600T standard fans, i.e. 2 x 200mm intake fans (front and top) 1x 120mm exhaust fan at rear. I have dual 140mm fans on my CPU cooler these are sucking air in from the front of the case and expelling to the back (i.e. towards the exhaust fan).

However, my PSU is mounted fan to the top rather than the bottom, this case has a filter underneath for mounting the PSU fan down, could this be a problem?

The intakes for the 2x 200mm fans are filtered and there are no side vents for dust to come in, just the window on the left (Perspex - no holes etc.).

:) Thanks for the replies so far guys

PS
This, if your outlets are pushing more air out than your intakes are sucking in, the balance has to be drawn from somwhere, which means an unfiltered gap.

I'm sure this is ok as the 2x 200mm intake fans must be sucking in more than what the 120mm exhaust is expelling, however the PSU must also be sucking air from the case as it is fan up, maybe I should mount it fan down?

ensure you have positive pressure and all intakes are filtered.

Agreed. I have a Corsair 650D. I have 2 intakes on the top, with Silverstone Fan Filters on them and the case intake at the front with it's own fan filter and then 1 exhaust at the back, not including the PSU intake and exhaust of course. I opened my case for a clean after 5 months from new, and it was virtually spotless. :D

I have just re-installed my PSU so the fan is now facing downwards, I did not realise that this was how it should have been installed in the 600T when I built. I don't think that will make a difference to the dust situation though.

I have positive pressure for sure and there are no unfiltered intakes. Any other advice guys?

higher up = less dust.
Off carpet = less dust
Clean house lots = less dust
Saying all that though, mine is on the floor, on carpet, and i dont hoover anywhere nearly often enough, and I only seem to get dust when Im lazy and have the sidepanel off for weeks at a time, and even then its just a fine layer on the gpu backplates. Are your dust filters actually any good, or are they rubbish/too big holes etc?

Yeah at the end of the day the environment the pc is in no matter how many filters you have makes the most difference. Weekly room cleaning = good.
