Had a Corsair 650 PSU failure in May 2010, RMA'd to OcUk & sent a replacement, now it's failed again

The first one exploded on turning on the PC this one seemingly didn't but PC is dead as a Dodo when I switched on this morning & I'm presuming it's the PSU.
Would a mobo failure still show some signs of life on the PC such as a light somewhere or disc drive lights flickering briefly ?

do the paperclip test mate, dead mobo could show lights all depends on whats blown.

Also try removing the mains lead for 10 seconds and reapplying had a couple of PSU's in the past that just wanted a quick nap

i once had a motherboard blow up. literally, two of the capacitors fired off the thing in a big cloud of smoke.

interestingly it still worked after that :O

but it got RMAd of course :)

unlucky with the psu, mines going strong since the watercooling decided to leak on the old one, again ending in a big cloud of smoke :)

could also buy a new psu, see if it works with it and send it back if its the mobo.

the paperclip method doesnt seem to work on my psu any more for some reason.. so its not foolproof either.

Paperclip test ends in failure, not getting anothe Corsair, the web has numerous threads about Corsair PSU failure, even their own website shows you how to do the paperclip test:eek:

You're not alone,I've had 2 Corsair PSU's fail on me (both were HX models) & 3rd time wasn't a charm. I replaced the last one with this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic X-Series 560w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £104.99
Total : £115.49 (includes shipping : £8.75).

Very pleased with it. The 80 plus gold rating helps too as my rig is on most of the time when I'm at home & not in bed.

/\ you paid shipping ? it's free for OcUk forum members with over a certain amount of posts
