7950 TF3 overclock on stock voltage

yes deffo, but unfortunately if you see the warning signs it's already too late, because i wasn't sure what this meant, or if Crysis wasn't to blame instead, so i tried again at 1.3 on MSI, it's then that i started really worrying, but i was only on these for about 5 mins each.

i then backed right off, but it was still sparking, i never went above 1.25 after this, i stopped gaming and went to the pc shop a day later.

but i cant remember if i dropped it back down to 1.2 and i guess it doesn't matter, the card blew the next day when i came here to download Deus Ex.

the mistake was to start an OC at 1.3v :eek: i can hardly believe that i was this stupid, because right now even 1.193 seems too high, or too scary !

Overclocks are not a given unfortunately.

My first 7950 was a Powercolor PCS+ with a really efficient cooler and factory overclock but was not even happy @ 1000 core, eventually it died after 7 months RIP.

My MSI 7950 is able to run at 1100 core without problem with a small bump in volts (not tried it higher yet).

right last night was most odd, in fact most nights are when i decide to fiddle with the software ! :D

i went into Trixx and i saw the voltage on 1.121, i thought flipping heck that's a bit low, i then deleted MSI AFTERBURNER and that Kronk thingy.

i minimised Catalyst and trixx side by side on the screen, i turned catalyst off by selecting no overclock/ defaults......suddenly, Trixx lost its overclock too.

i overclocked Trixx again but it wouldn't accept the figures until i turned Catalyst back on, and it had to be back up to maximum only before Trixx would work again.

this allowed me to take Trixx higher..... i played R6 VEGAS 2 and it didn't like 1.193v, i saw like a Chess board travelling vertically up the screen, i also saw orange holes appearing, i've seen similar before on Crysis, i backed it off to 1.181 and it looked great, much better than at the stock voltage of 1.70

i then carried on gaming with no audio.... card/pc was dead quiet, like it was on idle.

i then played Deus Ex with no audio at 1.181, again dead quiet; plus a totally stable image.

my guess is VEGAS 2 is too old now, because Deux Ex is fine at both voltages..

i'll leave it at 1.181.....1600....1225., which is a fair bit above AMD Catalyst which is all i was after. i turned the pc off 5 times to test it and it still had my saved Trixx profile OC figures so that's ok now.

Guys, how was your TF3 packed?
Clear film on the cooler? any MSI seals or clear stickers on the box etc?
 
How do i get past 1100mhz on the core clock? on msi afterburner i can only get a max of 1100mhz
