"Define" what it means to be an "Elite" gamer

I'm an Elite Gamer.
Back in the late 70s we had one of the first Pong machines in a rock pub called The Highway and I used to beat everybody who challenged me.
Me and my mate were also unbeaten at Bar Football.

Theres more than just 2 catagories of gamer - you have hardcore or veteran gamers, etc. also.

An elite gamer is someone who is at the top of their game this may be a specific game or a specific type of game, etc. no real rules except they will have been heard of by a large proportion of the communities associated with that game or genre, will consistantly be one of the best ranked, etc.

TBH your friend sounds more like a gaming geek than an elite gamer.

The first rule of being an elite gamer is you don't talk about being an elite gamer...

It's really a bit of a silly and childish discussion tbh. If I ever had to describe what sort of gamer I considered myself to be (and I don't think I'd really ever have to; how inane!) I'd say I was an 'oldschool' gamer, or perhaps a 'hardcore' gamer, though meant only to differentiate between what I see as a modern trend for casual/easy games with no depth, and 'oldschool' games that could be played pretty much infinitely and never get old.

It's true that gaming has 'generations', but as for "elites" . I enjoyed the previous generation's FPS games the best: competitive, deep, with healthy league scenes and plenty to learn. Nowadays it's all achievements and easy-mode. Same with MMO's. But to qualify yourself as "elite" involves an arrogance which the previous statement-of-fact does not.

I can only assume that the OP & his friend are 12 years old, Due to this my answer is Go read a book.

Someone who cares about winning rather than how the game looks.

Someone who puts gaming before other major priorities in their life.

Stupid term tbh. I'd say elite = people with too much time/effort devoted to something lacking in substance and meaning, and most likely getting paid for it... :/

I'd define myself as a "focused" gamer in that I casually play one thing only for weeks/months on end (instead of play many different things simultaneously), because I like to be immersed in one piece of fiction or creating strategies/tactics within one game's framework - kind of a mental exercise, like chess.
