£700 phone bill in 2 weeks?

It probably would have been wise to ask in the first place. Almost the same thing happened to me, I ran up £80 of data charge on my new contact phone just after switching it on and leaving the shop that I had just got the phone from. It turns out that my old sim the guy in the shop put in my new phone didnt have any data allowance. A quick phone call to the shop and they applied some data credit to the account to cover the £80 it had already run up. Since it was a new phone it will update all the apps and stuff to the lastest versions. If its a free phone she gets from the school then I would think she has to pay it

I've had an internet phone since 2004, always done the odd app download, used email etc and the data charges never went over £5 on top of my standard tariff.

Unless the kids were transferring media files, What's App shouldn't use much data with it being text-based. Definitely scrutinise the bill. Either that, or there's a rat in the school's IT dept (or whoever manages the school phones).

I remember Orange's T&C stating that every megabyte over the monthly allowance cost £1. That was a little while ago.

£700 is unreasonable. Look through the contract carefully, try to find out why she didn't bother to read it and see if you can argue that the contract is unfair. Consider hiring a lawyer.

Pwned. :p

It's probably because the business/institutional contract dates back to the pre-smartphone days and so the data charges are extortionate compared to current prices. That said equally if they have a whole bunch of lines then they probably have a fair bit of bargaining power too - for example there may be an option to negotiate adding a data package to her contract in lieu of paying the outstanding bill.

 Best do some checking up use my iPhone for the radio every time I work night shift and racked up over 2GB data usage for a good few months now but no extra charges yet...

Firstly, why is the teacher letting the Students use the phone

Secondly, When you buy a new phone you NORMALLY always know what kind of plan you are on and stick to it. For Example if you know your on a 1Gb/2Gb package you can work out how much usage you are using up by just using common sense.

Without a doubt this 700 pounds was NOT caused by Whatsapp alone, I used it 20/30 times a day to friends on my 3G connection with a 1Gb Limit and never went over once even with Photos and Videos per month.

I suggest you take a look in your phones settings as all the information will be on there as well.

Wow check this out, looks like i was blaming my sister and kids for no reason or very little reason.

£650 charge in one day and at once, surely theres a limit.

She was given the phone about 7pm friday and went home at about 10pm-11pm, so a £650 charge for 3-4hours. The only thing being done at that time was my nephew was upgrading the phones software and firmware, nothing else.

T- Mobile

Surely they cant charge £650 for 3 hours use? jesus ***** hell?

If the charges are right just tell her to pay the bill and put it down as a lesson learnt. It could have been a spyware app or something as that doesn't seem right?

The school have every right to ask for the money to be honest.
