Contact Lens Bacteria

DailyMail posts the same story about once a month.

75 cases per year, and I would bet 74 of those are from people who wash their lenses with water. There are even people in the comment section saying "I've worn contacts for 10 years and never knew not to wash them with water!" How can a contact lens wearer not know that, "don't wash with water" is listed on pretty much everything about contact lenses.

I wear disposables anyway.

They occasionally launch themselves out of my face, or I lose them in the sea, or I forget they're in and rub my eyes, or I get drunk and blink them out... I don't think a reusable pair would last anywhere near a month for me.

Classic comment from someone:

If they get into your brain, you die, 100% of the time

My nephew's mother was hospitalized due to a contact lens infection, was really quite bad.

I don't wear contacts anyway, glasses all the way. You don't have to touch your eyes and you get to look intellectual :D

daily mail in sensationalist headline again!

you shouldnt get tap water on your lenses anyway, thats why they say dont get them wet and use solution, only a moron would use tap water on their lenses

I was quite paranoid about it until I went on holiday with my friend and realized lots of people are pretty gung-ho with their contact lenses and it is probably those people who get stung. He didn't bother washing his hands, used the same solution in the storage pot all week and rinsed them in water.

I've only ever used tap quarter on lenses when I've had something nasty in my eye and didn't have access to anything else. Daft otherwise and they better not have been doing it to save money.

i am currently using monthlies and have considered just buying a pair of glasses after reading that and just use disposable lens when playing sport or going out.

and i dont normally read the news hence why i didnt know daily mail wasnt a reliable source
